So there is this cool tool called Skype – have you heard of it? (and no I am not getting paid to endorse Skype). Lately I have been using “Skype” to chat with clients (did I mention it is free?) and most importantly to talk to my husband Rob while he travels. Rob has been away a lot in the last few weeks and our way to stay connected has been via Skype.
My five year old loves it. “Let’s Skype Daddy” , “Is it time to Skype Daddy?”, “Is it too late to Skype daddy where he is (universal world clock quite handy tool) ?” etc were common questions I have heard over the last few weeks. The crazy 1.5 year old just looks at the computer and wonders how the hell big daddy fits into a computer screen. LOL.
Having a travelling husband is not easy. For pretty much our entire relationship my husband has traveled for business. So much sometimes that his Japanese clients sent me flowers to say sorry. It was hard on our relationship but over the years we have adjusted to his life on the road. The five year has been on cool trips with me because of dad’s travelling job and the frequent flyer miles/hotel points are sweet.
Lately Rob has not had to travel as much. The last trip he took was in February – he left the day after I had to fire my nanny. Timing is everything. If he had been home I would likely have not left my job and really it was a good thing I did – so everything happens for a reason. Since then he has been home and it has been nice. This last trip in October has been hard on me because I had gotten used to having him around more. Also, I now have a crazy toddler and a busy school schedule for my oldest son. I miss Rob’s helping hand when he is not around.
Three signs I knew Rob was gone too long for my liking
- I yelled at the microwave for beeping at me
- The Universal Time Clock was my best friend.
- I stopped trying to keep track of where Rob was. At first it was a fun geography lesson for the kids and then it was just annoying trying to remember where he was!
Anyway, things are somewhat back to normal and I am leaving for Blissdom Canada conference this week so I guess it will be my turn in the hotel. Yeah!
PS – Toronto Mommy Entrepreneurs: I am having a mompreneur cocktail party with Sara Bingham of Wee Hands in support of Girl’s Night In (Canadian Cancer Society) on November 2. Hope you can make it out!
