My thighs are covered in eggplant-purple bruises. Do you know why? Because I keep on forgetting how wide my body has become and I find myself crashing into the arms of park benches, low-lying towel racks, and the edges of countertops. My own body is in denial about the girth it’s packing around these days and tells me, “You can totally squeeze through that space, it’s not like you’re three feet wide or something!” when, in reality, I actually AM.
I had another pleasantly uneventful doctor’s appointment this morning and I think have discovered the key to making my ob/gyn keep her skinny mouth shut about my astronomical weight gain: bring my three year-old to the appointment. I think even my normally tactless physician saw the potential harm in berating me for getting too fat in the presence of a child. “Hello, little girl! Do you think your mommy’s bum-bum is getting too big? ME TOO!”
Problem solved.
In other exciting news, we have an impromptu trip to California planned in a couple of weeks! (More details to be revealed at a later date!) I have never really gone on a holiday while being hugely pregnant and am wondering if anyone has any words of wisdom to offer about such an excursion. What should I bring? What should I do/not do? And does anyone have any great recommendations of what to do in the San Diego area? I’m all ears.

SO glad you are representing UrbanMoms in Cali! Never been to San Diego so can’t give you advice but did travel while pregnant. #1 Tip: Get up while on the plane. Walk around. Stand. Whatever. But do NOT sit the whole time. Ankle swellage ain’t pretty. #2 Tip: Drink lots of water (see #1). #3 Tip: Enjoy!

When are you going to San Diego? We go next week so I can tell you after that if you still haven’t gone yet.

Hi Amanda,
If you are bringing the tots with you to San Diego, I have a TON of fun things for you all to do as we did that about a year ago and had a great time. My kids are now 6 and 3.5, and we, like you, are having another baby this summer.
Make sure you do NOT stay at the Comfort Suites Mission Valley. It sounded awesome, but was dirty, tiny, and miserable. We ended up at the Marriott Mission Valley and LOVED it. A little more pricey, but I could tell it was worth it when my frugal husband even said we were changing hotels.
Cheers,
Carrie
