She was so excited and it feels like such a milestone. Before we know it she’ll have huge adult teeth awkwardly filling her mouth, maybe some glasses and braces and a bad haircut. It marks the chipping away of childhood, gradually losing tiny white pieces of her babyhood as time relentlessly marches on.
(I might be a tad hormonal this week.)
When I lost my first tooth, the tooth fairy left a five dollar bill under my pillow and I remember my dad explaining that she must not have had change. So last night I crept into her room, slipped a fiver under her head and told her the same thing when she woke up.
What do you give your kids for their lost teeth? I don’t even know what the going rate is! (I sure don’t plan on giving five bucks each time, but thought it was a neat little memory to pass along to the next generation.)

What a beauty she is, Amanda!! Gosh…
I think we’ve just done loonies and toonies the whole time – they’re always thrilled, no matter what, I think!!

We pretty much did the same. 5 for the first usually a toonie for the others. One of the fun things we’ve done that the kids get excited about is that if they leave their tooth Ina glass of water then the tooth fairy has to dive into the water to get it. ( she likes swimming) and then you can tell what colour the fairy was because of the colour of the water in the morning. Sparkles in and around the cup always add to the excitement. Once I accidentally spilled the sparkles all over my son and his bed… That was thrilling – there must have been a tooth fairy party! So yes, until just last year (for the oldest at least) it has been great fun. Oh and the kids sometimes write notes – she writes back too, “No, I’m sorry I didn’t have any Lego with me! It’s too big for me to carry. Save your money!”

We haven’t arrived at that point yet, although my girls ask me almost every day when it will happen.
I just wanted to say, what a beauty she is! Spitting image of her mama.

Mine get $5 for their first tooth and a toonie for each tooth after that.

I’m not planning on letting her teeth fall out – so nothing.
If they do happen to come out though it’ll probably be a toonie.

I just showed this picture to Emily and Lauren (she’s over for a play date) and they were SO EXCITED.
(My kids get $5 a tooth. Inflation, man.)

Abby got $2 for her first tooth and $1 for her second. It will continue to be $1 for the rest. Cute tradition to pass on to Avelyn!
