I am one of those people who can't see a movie inspired by a book unless I have read the book first. If I do, I am always wondering what nuances and facts I am missing. The downside is that I am never quite satisfied with the movie version of a good book.
I have yet to see the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but have plans to see it soon so I decided to read the book. I was a bit embarrassed when I had trouble locating the book in Indigo and was directed to the Teen section. But I swallowed my pride and bought the book. And am very glad I did.
This is a sweet coming of age story. I read the book on a kid-free weekend away in less than twenty-four hours. It was an easy read, a great escape, and I fell in love with the characters. They were a bit predictable and more like stereotypes than real people but once I got over the simplicity of the characters (remember, it is geared toward teenage girls) I lost myself in the story.
If you are looking for a quick and thoroughly enjoyable read, I would definitely recommend this book. This was one of those books that I wish I had drawn out a little longer because I actually missed reading it when I was done.
