There’s no better place to get into the spirit of the holidays than to spend some time in the studios with CBC hosts Steven and Chris. With all the incredible and fresh D.I.Y. ideas that are now dancing in my head, I am SO ready to embrace the season.
UrbanMoms was invited to a Holiday Set Crawl and had some time with the hosts to ask a few questions for our readers!
UrbanMoms: Are you naughty or nice, or do you play with dreidels?
CHRIS: Ha!… Oh, am I naughty?
STEVEN: No, you’re nice *smirk*
UrbanMoms: Your bar always includes????
CHRIS: Nothing because we drink it ALL.
STEVEN: Wine. Lots of red wine! and vodka! Oh…lots of Steven and Chris wine!
UrbanMoms: What’s your favourite holiday drink?
STEVEN: oh, that drink that Cocktail Deeva did one time …hot butter…something? and red wine!
CHRIS: I can’t name one I don’t like!
UrbanMoms: What was your most favourite host gift that you’ve received?
CHRIS: All of them! Especially the framed photo of our God-children, Tracy Melchor’s kids. Sigh!!!
UrbanMoms: What’s was the worst host gift you’ve ever received?
CHRIS: NOTHING…literally. People who show up with nothing!
UrbanMoms: What’s on your playlist?
STEVEN: Kate Bush (old school) but she just came out with a new CD and that just reminded me to go back to her old stuff.
CHRIS: Adele (she’s on everyone’s playlist isn’t she?), anything remixed by David Guetta especially the new song with Usher, George Michael, Beyonce, Whitney (old school), and meditation music like Tibetan Chants!
Here’s a recipe that is delish! and it just so happens to be gluten-free!
COCONUT SHORTBREAD (Gluten Free)
1/2 cup cold butter
1 cup dessicated (dried) coconut
1 cup white rice flour
1/2 cup shredded coconut
2 eggs
1 teaspoon honey + extra for glazing
pinch of sea salt
1 tablespoon water
coconut flakes for garnishing
In a medium sized bowl cut the butter into the dried coconut, and the shredded coconut until mixture resembles irregular pea sized clumps. Add remaining ingredients. Mix together with your hands until a soft dough has formed. Pat dough into a 8 inch non-stick pan or individual non-stick mini cupcake pan. Bake in a preheated oven at 350F for 20-25 minutes (Convection 325F).
While still warm remove from pan and glaze with extra honey. Sprinkle with Coconut Flakes and Sparkling Sugar. Cut into 12 pieces. Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
