True Story: I once had to turn away a bottle of wine because I couldn’t carry it on to the plane (dang laws!) and I didn’t trust the combination of my typically soft-sided suitcase and overzealous airport bag handlers to keep it safe.
True Story #2: I have stood at a luggage carousel enviously eyeing the gorgeous bags circling it, and let my bag pass me by when surprised by an old friend at the conveyor belt. Way too ratty to be picked up in front of people who knew me, I waited until the conversation ended and the old pal left to retrieve the aberration.
The good news? I’m getting smarter.
Two luggage changes over the past year have upped my bag toting confidence and changed the way I look at luggage for the better.
The first?
My Heys Revolution Elite hard-sided luggage set. Three sizes, plenty of room bolstered by straps that lock things in place inside and four spinner-wheel drive mean I don’t have to edit what I bring to fit the bag, I don’t have to worry about my unmentionables falling out during a customs spot check and I don’t have to sacrifice my back for my suitcase. I admit to missing some of the exterior pockets on my old luggage that allowed quick last-minute additions, but the fact that this set \expands to offer another 25% of space should I find a pair of shoes (or small table) that I just can’t leave behind tips the scale.
(I pair mine with the Heys’ X- scale – “the world’s smallest portable luggage scale” – for one- hand weight checking in the comfort of my hotel room.) Now shopping in my vacation destination (no matter how fragile the piece) is always an option and best of all the tough exterior means no bottle gets left behind.
The second?
My Shuttle Bus Weekender Bag from LUG in Toronto. For trips too short to warrant me bringing out the hardcase, this bag has become my go-to carry-all. Soft sided with more pockets and pouches than you can fill, I can have instant access to my shoes (separate pouch so dirty soles don’t contaminate clean clothes!) and other little things (passports, jewellery) without digging through the middle. Best of all it can double as an athletic bag without advertising to the entire office that that’s where you’re headed. I’ve been able to get 5-days worth of clothes and two pairs of shoes in this bag. Stylish but functional – What’s not to love?
Together the combo is my one-two travel punch. What about you? What are your must-have travel items?

My must have item? My toiletries kit in case I get stranded somewhere! Fortunately, http://www.itravel2000.com has never booked a trip for me where this happened. I can’t wait for my next vacation to the BVIs!
My 5 year old and I depend on each other to get all the “to-do’s” done. We keep organize by using her monthly school calendar (which is prominently posted onto the fridge) and constantly add and/or refer to it in order to keep on top. Juggling her schoolwork, piano lessons, birthday parties and extra curricular activities makes organization top of our priorities. My 5 year old has a fantastic memory and together, we always complete our tasks!
never travel without wipes!! faces always need a wipe!!!!
My must have depends on who is with me. If I am traveling alone I have a picture of my son, a magazine, camera and his Ipod that he recorded a message to me and I have to figure out how to get it…lol. If he is with me all I need is a Magazine and his DS, and a camera….
I cannot travel without my blanket, I know it sounds funny, but it’s the truth my blanket would miss me 🙂
Must have’s of course would be great company ( In my case my kids :p) but non living items i would have to have in order ; Books , or something like an Ipad, i would say a really good cell phone because not only does it take pictures but it also records ;p and for the obvious usage of the gps option in case you get lost 🙂
Reading the comments reminds me of how much we as women and mothers have in common. I could use the comments to make a packing list, seriously. For me my pillow, my inhaler, numerous sundries and kiddie items from diapers and breastpads to Nintendo DSi’s are must haves. No wonder we are looking at the Go Canada lugs puddle jumper as a journey lifesaver; each of us imagining just what we could fit in for our next trip away from home. Good luck girls! Great prize for sure!
Travel necessities for me would be, of course a good book, and i love my cosmo mag, a puzzle book, I love wet wipes as i can hardly bare to touch public taps, and most definitely a camera, pictures of my fondest memories
A good book, my MP3, and shoes. Lots of shoes. Walking shoes, dancing shoes, flip flops, dress shoes….maybe even boots, depending on the where and the what!
Lip balm because my lips are always dry when travelling and crayons ALWAYS in my bag because it keeps my toddlers occupied.
I always take a small sewing kit with me, you never know where something will come undone!
I can’t travel without my ipod & my Sony reader & earplugs & sleeping pills for longer trips!
My “must have” while travelling are those handy prepackaged hand wipes,I would never travel without them.I can manage to clean my hands and wipe my face( and the kids!) while on long flights.Such a wonderful thing!
This post inspired me to purchase new luggage! After 7 trips to Europe in the past 18 months lugging around heavy, old and abused luggage, I followed your link and purchased a beautiful set of Heys Eco Orbis luggage, along with some packing accessories. I can’t wait for it to arrive! I’m leaving for West Africa in April, and this luggage set will make travel so much easier, and a bit more fun.
I always bring with me a good book and some crosswords for entertainment on the plane!
got to have my travel pillow fer sure
I think the most important travel tips/ or things we take NO MATTER WHAT every trip is a Tide To Go Stain Remover stick as we have 4 kids in our family… 3 of which are allergic to cutlery and tend to have food attack them before they get a chance to eat it. The other must have in our family is we ALWAYS pack an extra duffle bag in our suitcase so we can bring home all our purchases and treats we have accumulated while we are away.
When travelling, my must have items are definitely my own pillow, great magazines or a wonderful book to read, puzzle books, toys and games for the kids and, of course, some healthy snacks.
Snacks, favourite toys and first aid kit.
My must have travel items are my down pillow, water, snacks and a juicy novel.
When I’m travelling with the kids the must have is snacks. When I’m by myself a must have is my iPod and a book. And always, no matter who I am traveling with now, I take Cold FX. Might sound like a commercial but I swear by that stuff now and no one wants to be sick while they are traveling!!!!!
My must have is a good book. If I get delayed or anything I can stay patient if I have an engrossing read.
nancy
I always bring a good book (usually a loooooooooong one, because, you never know about delays, etc.). Since I never know how my luggage is going to fare, I take trial sizes of my toiletries and a change of clothes (especially underwear… LOL)
My must haves are comfortable shoes and a puzzle book
My must have travel items include sun screen, ziplocs, at least one book, a camera, snacks and water. I have travelled to over twenty countries, and wouldn’t want to travel without these items.
My ipod is my Must-have travel item. Alarm clock, world time, music, movies and photo storage all in one!
My must have items for travelling are my books and magazines.
my must have item is a big purse to fit extra toys and snacks for my son that don’t fit in his tiny backpack
I always bring , my camera, note book, snack bars and toiletries and a couple of extra plastic bags for wet and soiled clothes .
I put all my stuff in ziplock bags before packing it. So that if something explodes en route to destination I won’t be opening my bag to find a big mess! And I carry a few extra plastic bags for wet swimsuits and dirty clothes. It makes unpacking and doing laundry so much easier!
I always have a hair dryer and moisturizer.
I always bring a good book (usually a loooooooooong one, because, you never know about delays, etc.). Since I never know how my luggage is going to fare, I take trial sizes of my toiletries and a change of clothes (especially underwear… LOL)
Having just returned from a trip, I need to replace my old 2 wheeler suitcase with a four wheel spinner. My load was unmanageable with the extra duty free packages. Secondly, hard sides are a must. Do the loaders go to school to learn how to kick baggage into unrecognizable shapes. LOL I used glow orange Duct tape to mark my luggage and it worked a charm.
Love all the pockets and compartments, great for travelling with kids!
I MUST have my coupons!! But I also must have my pillow and hair straightner!!
Pillow, toothbrush, hairbrush, diapers, pacifier, and extra change of clothes for my little one
I always bring tons of snacks and actual meals for the kids and I. My sister was once stuck on a plane with her daughter on the tarmac forever, then they finally took off for a 5 hour flight and the airline ran out of almost all their food (and they didn’t bring anything to eat). Needless to say the only thing they were able to eat was a bag of chips and a chocolate bar over a 14 hour period. I guarantee that will never happen to me! Nothing else seems to matter when you are starving!!!
(But I do like to bring books, toys, etc. for the kids and I as well to keep us occupied)
I always make sure to bring my own pillow and a good book when I travel.
Gravol and Tylenol- then I can sleep. And I always bring a snack for when I wake up hungry! And of course- my blackberry with internet access!
My must haves are Hand Sanitizer and cream; books & toys for my son, chewing gums, some medicine.
My favorite travel items are games and coloring books to keep the kids busy.
poochieralpy@hotmail.com
My must have is a great bag to bring on the plane. I need a place for my book, lip gloss, mints, travel book and maps, etc. We always have a travel book with us to look up what are must-sees wherever we are going.
I have to make sure that I travel with my hairdryer. The ones in hotels are never strong enough.
A GREAT big bag of FOOD!
I get hungry all the time and cranky without it
Trust me- more important than anything is a big bag of food
YUM!
My must haves are dive-grade zip-lock bags for things like money, passports and hotel/cabin rooms, a collapsible bag for those must haves on shore excursions, and my little micro bead pillow..never know when you’re going to get stuck at the airport due to bad weather!

i carry essential items that i need such as wallet, ipod, etc.
My must have item is my favorite lipstick and travel hairbrush. No matter how long the flight or how travel plans may be delayed, freshing up always make me feel better and ready to deal with whatever comes up.

My must have travel item is my carry on bag – lap top, good book, magazine, puzzle book, ear phones (and ipod), snacks, you never know when you might be delayed…i’ve been delayed in airports with little to nothing open.
With two young grandson’s I would always bring; drink, food, a book to read to them; and since I am a disabled grandmother of course I have to bring my forearm crutches too! GO CANADA GO …
I always bring a good book (usually a loooooooooong one, because, you never know about delays, etc.). Since I never know how my luggage is going to fare, I take trial sizes of my toiletries and a change of clothes (especially underwear… LOL)
My must have travel items are:
Pull-ups and wipes, change of clothes, snacks, books, ID, cash, credit card, Benadryl, Childrens Advil, trial sizes of toiletries, GPS, and of course camera extra memory card and batteries!
I like to have a couple of drinks on a flight that is longer than an hour or so. However, I object to the pricing that is now in place. So, I save those miniature “sample” liquor bottles that are attached as a sample to larger bottles of my favorite beverage.
I simply refill them from home and tuck them into a pocket of my carry-on. As soft drinks are usually complimentary, I end up with my relaxing drink at little or no cost.
No matter where I go for a field trip with the kids or big trip with the family – the camera is a priority.
Also on big trips, I bring my Bible.
I must have my book, or magazine. I carry a emergency kit of wipes, toothbrush, toothpaste, handcream, deodorant and perfume just in case we get delayed.
I never travel without my assortment of product samples such as shampoo, conditioner, lotions, etc. They are compact and usually flat for easy packing. That way I don’t have to travel with full size bottles that take up valuable space for another pair of shoes or an outfit.
I always bring lots of healthy snacks for myself and my daughter, packed in individual bags, as it can be very difficult to find good food on the road.
My must have is a clear over the door shoe organizer
I hang it in the hotel bathroom, and use it for all my toiletries, I can see it grab it and its off the small counters
I must have at least one crossword book with me. I’m a crossword junkie and I love the difficult puzzles. If there’s a delay, or traveling is especially long, I barely notice the time….rapt in thought working on a crossword.
My travel must have is my ipod for sure! Also a book if I am travelling for a long period of time, as well as some snacks so I don’t have to buy the overpriced food.
My must-have items are mints, a good find-a-word book, pencil, camera, Blackberry and wet wipes.
I always bring a good book (usually a loooooooooong one, because, you never know about delays, etc.). Since I never know how my luggage is going to fare, I take trial sizes of my toiletries and a change of clothes (especially underwear… LOL)
I carry my orange Duct tape for marking packages and my luggage. I never have a problem identifying my checked luggage at airports.
I like to take a small flashlight in case I have to get up during the night . Also disposable flipflops you get when having a pedicure are perfect fr going through airport security so do not have to be barefoot on those dirty floors. Lastly I pack all bottle of liquids in ziploc to be sure of no messy suitcse leaks on my clothes.
I never travel without wet wipes, animal crackers, gum and a juice box. Yep I bribe my kids to sit quietly on the train, bus or plane with food. Crayons and paper are also #1 on my list depending on how far we are going. This beautiful bag would replace my worn our MEC bag I have had since University, making the transition from “recapturing my youth tree hugger bag” to an “embracing my children’s youth yet still looking fashionable” phase in my life!
Must have – anti-acid & ibuprophen.
I always bring a spare “emergency pack” in my purse: toothbrush and paste, address book, underwear, makeup, and a book…if my luggage ever gets lost, I can live with it for a day or so!
I really like the XCase Canadian luggage !. I love to bring a couple mail order catalogues with me when I travel so I can ” shop ” on the way !!! . Passes the time and makes me feel good.
My must have travel items include travel size lotion, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, moisturizer, face wash, my makeup, underwear and socks, my own alarm clock, ziploc bags and a few grocery bags that I use for dirty clothes, my pj’s, and a change of clothing. It sounds like a lot, but it’s really not and the
My Shuttle Bus Weekender Bag from LUG looks perfect! I love the color, too!
I never leave home without my iPod and my children’s teddy bears (when I travel with my children).

I organize a bag of things thatb are new and different (they ciould be dollar store items.. markers, flip books) as well as favorites red anong books and take irems out gradually. This way the item is new and occupis them. After new item comes out. The items do not have to be costly. Our newspaper includes word searches so I cut them out for a few weeks prior to our trip.
My must have is a Dean Koontz novel for all the time waiting around and then relaxing once you get there.
I always have Ziploc bags and little plastic garbage bags. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been thankful to have somewhere to put something wet/dirty/spit-up on/pooped on/etc….

One thing that I now can not live without when traveling is a travel alarm clock.
not every hotel room has a clock or reliable wake up service.
I have learned this from experience.
my must haves..candied ginger, vitamin water (xxx or dragonberry), bag of pretzels, Dramamine, trash magazines, moleskin notebook, ipod, visa card & cash, a pen, hairband, toothbrush, nintendo ds, kleenex, jelly bellies…now do you see why I need the LUG? LOL.
Love this would be great to have around for the summer !!
A really big carry on bag + purse. Pack as much a you can in there! Silly me travelled with a 2 year old and a mini back pack. To think of all the things I could have stuffed in a hugest ever carry-on 🙂

My must have item is a bag that I can put tons of stuff in but still small enough to take on a plane.
I always carry a fresh change of underwear & my meds in a carry-on that I have with me. After having arrived out of the country once to find my luggage missing I keep all extremely essential things with me. Other than that a real comfortable pair of walking shoes is a must.
when i go away everyone laughs cause i have to pack everything just in case lol theres nothing i leave behind you never know whats going to happen or if plans change
Having just returned from a three-day business trip, I can comment on this 🙂
Definite must-haves are my iPod, a good book/magazines (ideally nothing that I’m particularly attached to so I can just leave them behind when done), small snacks (have you seen what they’re charging at airports for a bag of pretzels?), and a pashmina/large scarf for unpredictable climate control on the plane.
Once at my destination, I have to have “lounge clothes” (i.e., yoga pants/roomy T-shirt) to change into after a day of meetings. While it may seem extraneous when you’re packing, it’s so worth it when you get there and want to unwind in comfort.
Other necessities: plug-in iPod charger, travel alarm clock, and eye mask.
My must have travel items is my travel pillow, flashlight, MP3 Player, and chapstick.
My I pod and lipgloss are a must with travelling.
lots of times in a crowded airport I find a coffee and sit & people watch listening to my tunes.
gotta love that.
I always pack a garbage bag to put dirty laundry in and keep it separate from my clean stuff.
everything disposable!
My have travel items: debit car, keys, lip gloss, Iphone.

I always take extra plastic bags (ziploc, shopping) to place dirty laundry or double-wrap toiletries in to prevent spillage. In my carry-on I have lip balm, a novel, and crossword puzzles.
I need to bring a good book, a puzzle book, my camera, my ipod, and I always bring extra everything on my carry on incae my luggage doesn’t make it. I usually bring a little photo album of friends & family (bragging rights..ha ha). Along with all my lip gloss and hand cream and purel.
My digital camera, video camera
My secret is to travel a light as possible. I can go away for two weeks and just use a carry one. Using travel size containers of my favourite products is one way to keep the weight down.
I need my Ipod, a good book that can keep my interest no matter what is going on around me, and my lip balm. This bag looks great for nice weekend trips or as a carry on. Go Canada!
I have to bring sanitizing wipes everywhere I travel, even if it’s just a short trip. I have a bit of a germ-phobia (aka Misophobia/Mysophobia or maybe just a bit of OCD)!!
😛
I have to bring sanitizing wipes everywhere I travel, even if it’s just a short trip. I have a bit of a germ-phobia (aka Misophobia/Mysophobia or maybe just a bit of OCD)!!
😛
My must have travel items are – pain killers, immodium, qtips (for quick make up fixes) and sunscreen! These are usually the most expensive items to get in the gift shop!
PS my luggage is really ugly too! I have yet to find a good set that the zippers don’t break off, the wheels don’t get bashed in transit and it looks stylish too!
I must have several books and my camera!
I always bring a good book (usually a loooooooooong one, because, you never know about delays, etc.). Since I never know how my luggage is going to fare, I take trial sizes of my toiletries and a change of clothes (especially underwear… LOL)

Handy Wipes and gravol!
We can get through almost any trip as long as we have some small distraction from travel illness my kids experience! Stickers and paper work well too 1
My laptop, magazines and books
It’s a good thing to always carry a few baby aspirins in your carry-on luggage. Pop one prior to a long car trip or airplane take-off to prevent deep vein thrombosis.
My must-haves include, hand moisturizer, a good book or magazine, my MP3 player, some healthy dried fruit snacks and candies, and unfortunately some Advil.
I always bring a book, plenty of ziploc bags, passport, and toothbrush. Happy traveling.
My must haves are ziploc bags!! Everything is kept safe…and if something spills….no need for worry!
Read through everything everyone else posts and keep going “yes, yes, yes”. Snacks, book, change of clothes, toothbrush, and two large lego blocks – one representing each of my kids. Something we started when they were small.
My must haves are my blue obus form pillow – it has a bag & can be folded down really small, and loops on my purse for easy travel, and I HAVE to have a good book!!! The pillow keeps my low spine comfy in those uncomfortable seats, and if there is nothing good on the tv – the book just makes the flight so much more enjoyable and shorter.
My must have travel items are lots of books.
Must haves for travel are lip gloss, a nail file and gum (for when you can’t brush)…if nothing else, these items can get you thru a few days!
My travel pillow, water, and a good book.
Bounce sheets!!
What? you ask….
They keep your clothes fresh (especially when you don’t know where or what your luggage is exposed to.

Whether it’s a car trip or one on an airplane, I have the kids (6 & 8) pack their own backpacks with handheld games, puzzle and colouring books, plus a pencil case with pencils, and little markers. I’m a dedicated read so I either have to take my books onto the plane or hopefully sometime in the future an e-book reader. And of course I’ll need room to bring back all my newly accumulated books.
I got to have music or a portable gaming system or something; traveling on the plane would be completely unbearable without it!
I have to have my zune with me, wherever I go!
A bottle of tea tree oil is essential for treating wounds, itches, dandruf, refreshing the skin and even to help with pimples while on the road.

I have a zippered tote bag that folds into an 7″ square and I never, ever travel anywhere without packing it in my suitcase. It is very large when it’s unzipped and made of strong nylon. It’s the greatest for bringing home unexpected purchases.
My must have is my blankie. OK .. I’ve said it … I’m a 38 year old mom of two and I still sleep with my blankie!
My must have item is a book
My must have items are paperback novels, lip balm and lotion.
A good book, travel sizes of personal products in my carryon along wth 1 change of clothes. Then I am good to go. Would love the LUG bag! I have been eyeing them up for awhile!!
I always pack duct tape, post it notes and a swiss army knife (I carry one in my purse). These items are handy for EVERYTHING. Duct tape is great for quick fixes, an absolute necessity. When you’re staying in a hotel, or resort, or cruise ship, post it notes are great to leave notes for staff members when you need something. The swiss army knife comes everywhere with me, it cuts those loose threads on clothing, acts as a screwdriver, a you-name-it! Every woman should carry one in her purse!
I need to be able to carry extra EpiPens, and of course a good book for when the kids are quiet. I’ve been looking at one of these bags…hoping to get one for my birthday!
toothbrush for me
and ds for my son
dvd player for daughter
Will never go barefooted when I travel whether it in a room or outside by the pool so I take something to wear at all times like flip flops.
I just arrived back from a trip to Florida. My new Heys suitcase that spins around is simply the best bag yet! I walked along “hand in hand” with my bag with the other hand free to hold my coffee cup. Love it! The funky style is great too and no mixing up bags with anyone else…..
Alexa
When travelling, I always want to have a book or two with me.
Thanks for the giveaway and the opportunity to participate.
A book (or 2, or 3!!!)
My earplugs!!!
my must have is a roll of paper towel. I can use it like baby’s wipe by adding water and if i forgot to bring my little one’s bib, the paper towel will be his bib. Sometimes i use the paper towel as a cushion during the long journey 🙂
A good book, lipbalm, glasses & contact stuff to switch, and of course all the thing required when traveling with kids.
I must have my tweezers it never fails everytime I travel I get a sliver whether metal, plastic or wood. Those slivers see me coming.
I always take along lots of zip lock bags, amazing how handy they are! Love the bag, it looks perfect!
I always take along reading material (Books and magazines), a travel pillow and small blanket
I always take my own battery-operated alarm clock (because I don’t want to be at the mercy of a hotel staffer for a wake-up call or to discover I can’t figure out the in-room alarm) and a sleep mask (for all those hotel rooms where they don’t have black-out curtains). Also I take a clothespin to take care of that little gap in the curtains 🙂
My iPod is an absolute must as is a good book and a couple of magazines (usually one serious type like Macleans and another more frivilous kind like Elle Canada).
Another must is a pair of flip-flops…I shudder to think about walking bare-footed on carpet that’s had thousands of people walking on it with their shoes on!
Thanks for the great give-away…The Lug bag looks divine!
I must have diapers and other change neccessities for my twins, with milk bottles, some books, incase got some time from my kids.
Definately a pillow, and my hairdryer!
I must have a good book, some healthy snacks, my lipbalm and a pair of comfortable walking shoes. And I have learned the value of plastic zip bags!
As long as I have my tickets, credit cards, and ID, I’m happy.
I can always get a toothbrush and clean undies on the go.
Next to that, the camera is #1, and lots of memory. That’s the only thing that cannot be replaced.
i must have kid books and crayons, and the camera for me
I can never travel without a book. As long as I have something to read I can handle anything that pops up while traveling.
My travel must have is first aid kit, in case we have a little problem …cut, sun burn or something like that. Also a bottle of fresh water….
My travel must have is ziploc bags .. I have 3 different sizes and they are great for keeping things organized especially items that can leak. I also can not live without my skin and lip moisturizers.
Must have my flat iron, sleep mask, comfy pjs, makeup case, tooth brush toothpaste, body lotion and my own shampoo and conditioners with styling products.
I have a couple of “must haves” – 2 new good books to read, zip lock baggies for my toiletries AND some emergency “female sanitary supplies” – I know this one sounds crazy but have you ever woken up in a hotel room in the middle of the night and gotten your period and no supplies on hand and too embarrassed to phone the front desk? – I’ve learned the hard way to take a few along “just in case”.
I need a good wristwatch, so I do not miss my flight! Bon voyage!
Must travel with a good book and a camera to take souvenirs of different trips.
not a big traveller (no $$$ for that) however we do go away once in a while and it sure would come in handy
My must have travel item is lots of things to keep the kids busy, books, toys etc. New ones are especially good, some things that they haven’t seen before and will keep them entertained for a bit longer.
If I have a paperback novel or two, then I am all set for my trip. Of course, the books are titles that I have been dying to read from my one of my favourite authors. such as Nora Roberts or Greg Iles.
My must haves for travel are my nose spray to reduce the pressure on my ears, gum, a pillow and a good book.
My must have are my flannel pj’s. Not very sexy according to hubby, but they keep me warm and cozy.
I am a single parent world traveller and my daughter (now age 9) and I always travel on a shoestring which is the only way we can afford to make the treks we do!! Because I must have one hand available to hold her at all times, we travel with only one huge backback that I carry. I have never found a good little bag for me to carry for our “plane stuff” that is sturdy enough and has enough little accessible pockets for. This little bag looks perfect for our next trip this summer!! When we travel on our long haul flights, we need a bag that can hold aan extra set of clothes for each of us, our camera, our medications, activities & a book for my daughter, and, our stash of emergency munchies in case the plane food is no good!! This bag looks perfect!!
I am a very disorganized and panicky traveller. So a must have is a bag that can keep everything organized for me. Lots of different sections to keep my stuff seperate is a must. This way when looking for my passport or ticket at the last minute I am not searching a bottomless bag but can find it easily in a pocket on the side.
I must have my ipod with me when I travel. It puts in some time when there are delays.
I travel with my iPod touch so I can listen to my music and play games on long trips.
I have to travel with my inflatable neck pillow so I can nap on the plane.
I can’t make it without a good luggage tag so I made my own from conference plastic name holders. It has coordinated decorations and ribbon so I never confuse my plain blue samsonite bag with the others on the carousel.
Ziploc Bags — items are packed according to when needed in individual bags and can be retrieved at a glance and eliminates individual items from falling out of my backpack.
Most important take along is my camera; what would a trip be without all the memories to bring back home with me.
I can’t travel with out my atomizer. I am continually spraying my face with that spring water from the minute of entering the plane. I also have to have my special earplugs and socks for cabin pressure. 🙂
My MUST have travel item is my iPod .. I would be so insane without that thing! Also I ALWAYS bring my slippers for long flights! That way the shoes come off and the slippers go on for more comfort!
My must have travel would be my camera, to capture all the moments!
WET WIPES are a must to keep myself and the kids clean!
Hand sanitizer, a toothbrush, a pair of clean underwear and cash! That way I am germ free, my breath is fresh and I am ready to go!
My pashmina. It is great on the airplane as I am always cold. I don’t have to pay for the airline’s acrylic blanket. Plus I look stylish travelling and I sometimes use the wrap with other outfits at my destination. Best Xmas gift ever!
I must have my Ipod, for movies, songs and games, and my book, and silly enough I have to bring my Teddy bear along with me on long trips, I just can’t sleep with out him!!
My must have travel item: my pillow. I cannot leave overnight anywhere without it.
absolutely must have my MP3 and a puzzle book or magazine, snacks and water!
I always bring along my mini blanket so I have a cover up when my neighbour in the next seat has the air conditioning cranked up.
My travel must haves include Gravol, tylenol, toothbrush and toothpaste, sun tan lotion, sunglasses, camera, hand sanitizer, change of clothing, with extra undies, american express cheques, extra money in case of emergency and my passport.
There is a lot more but basically whatever I can fit in the bag that I need goes…..
Thanks for the contest, good luck to all moms who entered.
I would put water, diapers and toys
I always need my pillow from home and my toothbrush
I would put snacks and toys
lots of chips, face schtuff, a good book(one that you want to finish right away), and emergency food in case i dont like the airplane food.
I absolutely cannot travel without my packing cubes! And my carry-on has to have hand sanitizer, lip balm, hand lotion, toothbrush/toothpaste and a pair of underwear. If my checked luggage doesn’t make it, I can at least change my underwear!
i always take several zip lock bags with me of various sizes, just to hold wet items, toiletries, toothbrushes, etc. they’re clear to see through and help keep things better organized for me!
I take my neck pillow on the off chance I might catch a nap and won’t get a kink in my neck. I take a good book so I can get lost in the story and help drown out some of the noise on the plane and I take an empty water bottle and once through security I fill it up so I always have water with me when I want it.
I have to have my neck pillow, a good book so I can get lost in the story and ignore the noise around me. I also take an empty water bottle and once through security, fill it up from the water fountain, so I always have water when I want it and don’t rely on the stewardess/steward to get me a small glass.
Since getting a cute little purple netbook for my birthday last fall, I must include it on every trip. It’s very handy to look things up quickly in a new place.
zip lock bags, snacks for the kids, a good book (you never know, they might all fall asleep!), at least 2 pairs of shoes.
My must have travel item is an extra bag or suitcase… I always come home with way more than I left with!!
I recently took my daughter on a trip to cuba and had to go out and buy a new suitcase…but I don’t have a carry on so we ended up using her pink backpack as a carryon/beach bag…next year I will for sure invest in something proper!!!
I must have a good book and my ipod
I MUST have my glasses and my knitting! Can’t leave home without either of these!
Travelling back from the States when our son was a baby, the custom guy decided he needed to check every single bag including the “old diaper bag” that I had used to put his dirty diapers in. Much to my surprise and his disgust he put his hand right in it and of course landed in the middle of a dirty diaper! I learnt real fast to not reuse a diaper bag for garbage!
I had told him in advance what was in it but he wouldn’t take my word for it!
Toothpaste and toothbrush ! Also wet wipes, always seem to feel so sticky when travelling !
I must always ensure I have an extra pair of contacts and prescription medication.
my must travel item are baby wipes, in the soft refill package. they are multipurpose for dirty hands and faces sticky spills, removing makeup, a quick face wash , just about anything.
My must have travel item is a small kit with toothbrush, toothpaste, dental floss and tweezers. I also carry ziploc bags with important or smaller items to ensure they are easy to find in my bag and an extra backpack so I can always have room to carry extra stuff.

My must have travel item is my puzzle books.
My toothbrush, toothpaste and my make-up bag which must contain lip gloss or chapstick and makeup remover wipes!!!!
I can’t leave home without two things – my knapsack which includes a camera, travel book to where we are going and my crossword/sudoku puzzle books, and my girls knapsack which holds all their things needed (toys, diapers, wipes, sippy cups, change of clothes, etc.). Their bag seems to be getting smaller as they get bigger as more and more ‘treasures’ seem to be included…this bag would be the ideal thing for them…thanks for the opportunity!!
I can go nowhere without my flat iron and my Kindle.

Now that they have grown my must have is my camera with extra batteries
We don’t travel much, but when we do, it is by car. As a result, we usually bring everything but the kitchen sink. Must haves for a road trip? Snacks, books, CDs, and our dog.

My name, address and phone number neatly pinned on the inside of my bag. This is how I had my travel on returned. A lady from Sweden took my bag by accident. It was so nice that she had contact info to return it.

When I travel I need to use my crossover body purse so I can have my hands free and not have to set my purse down on dirty floors, etc.
I must take a lemon …yes a fresh yellow lemon. Wherever I travel or go for a long ride I feel dizzy and nothing works better for me than the smell of a lemon.
My must-have travel item is Gravol. The only time that we took a family trip where we flew in a plane our family flew to Mexico for a March Break holiday. I did not have Gravol with me and my poor young son was ill in the washroom on the plane almost the whole trip.
I must have a feeling of anticipation wherever I go. Doesn’t matter if I have suitcases full of stuff or a backpack with just the essentials. Without the excitement, there’s no reason to go.
When I travel, I need books and my suduko to keep my mind off the flying part, and of course gum for either the takeoff/landing or to get rid of that just woke up/dragon breath feeling in your mouth
When I travel I must have the latest chick-lit novel, kleenex, lip balm and my camera.

Good morning, well I have pondered over which item is the most beneficial and must have item when travelling, and of course my toiletry bag, which consists of some makeup, body lotion, small bar of soap, small tube of toothpaste, some aspirin and small bottle of shampoo/conditioner. If my big luggage case gets misplaced or travelled somewherelse without me, I would have a least my little toiletry bag, to freshen up and be presentable. always have to look decent, even though i might have some very wrinkled clothing that I would have to wear a little longer than I intended too:) thanku barbara from Cambridge, Ontario
I must have sunglasses and my ipod!
A must have are earplugs. Sounds funny but if my travelling buddy is snoring it keeps me awake, then I do not feel refreshed the next day. PS Love the RED travelling bag!

A travel must-have is Otrivin to clear my ears. Works every time!

I must travel with a pillow, lightweight blanket and eye covers.
I must have my big purse so that I can carry all our tickets, passports, travelers cheques and extra cash. I don’t trust anyone else to not loose them, lol!
My must have travel item is my ipod. As long as I’m listening to music, I can sit in an airport for hours! 🙂
My kids each pack a little suitcase on wheels with their toys and special things. I would love to have a Shuttle Bus Weekender Bag to pack my book and special things in!
When traveling , you need a BIG purse to hold everything. Zip-lock bags for shampoo and perfume. And of course, gossip mags that you dont buy when you are home because you have no time to read them.
Didn’t realize it before I left for holidays, but I didn’t check how much eyeliner I had left…it’s the kind that you turn and it lengthens, well, I went to turn and NADA!! And trying to find that brand and favourite colour where a I was was all in vain, or should I say vanity…LOL I used what little I could scratching the underneath of my eye with exposed plastic. I’ll tell you this much, that will NOT happen again!! LOL 😀
Ziplock bags always fit into my carry on and checked baggage. They have a million uses from snacks to toys to icky things.

Definately a good novel! I don’t get much time to read at home so being “stuck” on a plane for a few hours is a great way to get some reading done!
I travel by train a few times a year. My must haves, besides my travel mug of Tim Hortons coffee is; baby wipes, tissues, hand sanitizer, a book (of course), my ipod, my camera (of course), sweater in case of chill, and a snack because the train is extremely expensive, and I am extremely cheap. Thank you.
My must have travel items would have to be my mp3 player and snacks.
Travel essential for me- sunscreen SPF ashighasIcanfind! I burn so easily and it’s not a fun way to spend a vacation!
When I travel, I keep my nessesities in my purse…my ipod, a book, my softlips, and a small bottle of hand lotion.
i always take my buckwheat pillow. it’s heavy but it’s small and i can sleep on the flight no matter what. it doesn’t compact so my neck doesn’t get all cranky
My travel essentials are an Ipod, a roadtrip playlist, and a stash of M&M’s . A map/GPS often comes in handy when travelling with me as well 🙂
My must have is snacks for the kids. With the price of food in airports and picky eaters besides, we wouldn’t survive a trip without them!
That is such a cool tote, I love it and it would come in soooo handy for me!
I can’t go anywhere without my camera and an issue of Flare Magazine! Both are must haves!
I always have to have my makeup bags with me, for all the goodies to beautify myself 🙂 Don’t want them to spill out or make a mess in the luggage
A good book and a package of unscented baby wipes are must-haves for my travels. You never know when you will encounter a delay, and frustration can build quickly if you don’t have somewhere to “escape” – a good book is key.
Baby wipes (and I don’t have a baby!) are great for freshening up, cleaning small spills, cleaning surfaces, and wiping away that grimy travel feeling.
One thing that I cannot go without is my crossbody purse with multiple pockets that I use strictly for travel. All the pockets are great for keeping passports and other important documents safe and secure and away from prying eyes. A separate pocket for various meds and epipens and yet another pocket for snacks and such for active boys constantly hungry.
My must have is a carry on with lots of pockets for important info, tickets etc, & medication as I am diabetic and always need my insulin at hand

If I am flying, on a train, on a bus, or walking, I must have my IPod Shuffle. It is so small and portable, I just clip it on and enjoy the ride!
My must have travel item are several Harlequin Romance books to read during travel and downtime or at the beach relaxing. Getting swept away in a romance on a tropical beach, hmmmmm. Now if only some of them would come true in real life.
My must haves are books to read to my son and a few magazines for me!
I always travel with coconut oil, which I use to moisturize my skin.
My travel must have is net laundry bags. I also bring some small re-useable shopping bags, as I like to shop on vacation, but I love to go green even away from home.
Definetly my pillow
I simply can NOT sleep wothout my pillow.

My family!
When I travel in Europe, my must have item is a bath puff in a ziploc bag. Many hotels in Europe don’t have washcloths, so I am able to easily pack this lightweight item. It also dries very quickly, so if you are traveling from one hotel to another, it can be packed in the ziploc bag, shoved in your suitcase & easily unpacked & hung up to dry at the next location. It takes up virtually no space in my luggage too.
I alway’s travel with a pillow, book, a couple rolls of my own toilet paper (don’t like the one ply) , Noxema, iPod and for health reasons prescription creams. I really need a new bag because I won a trip to a 5 star hotel and all the young people who were there and their parents had their Louis Vutton suitcases and bags and walking with pride, when we unloaded our luggage we had glad brand, yes that’s right glad garbage bags!!! We recieved some pretty interesting stares, my husband and I still laugh ( this was 2 years ago) he said at least we have top of the line glad bags not the cheap ones!!
Must have Travel Items?
Bible
Picture of my kids and husband and my wedding ring.
Just enough for happiness.

Baby wipes! I never leave home without them and I keep them in my snack-toy-keep- the-kids-busy-while-I-grocery-shop-knapsack!
My must have item is moisturizer for my face and hands. I have very sensitive skin & it flakes way too much on a plane. These must have items would fit right into this lovely luggage.
I always like to have my wind-up flashlight that doubles as a radio. Of course it goes without saying the zip-lock bag with detergent to wash the kids clothes if needed.
My must items are my ju-ju-be diaper bag and my nursing cover – with a young one on board, I can nurse discreetly, even after both my son and I fall asleep! No peeking body parts here!
My must have items are my chapstick, bible, and Chi iron (for quick easy styling on the go, which I always am!).
I have a sleek little insulated black bag that was actually intended to carry a breast pump and bottles of milk. It’s the perfect bag to carry snacks for my family, and I never travel without it!
I would never travel without a good book
I have to have a good strong- looking piece of Luggage- because my daughter who is 6 carrys most of her stuff with her whereever she goes. She says she dont want to be bored.
Whether its to Church, the grocery store, the mall.the park.visiting family or friends,,where ever-she packs her bag with all her stuff.
Love this bag! My must take item is my down feather pillow that I have had since 1968. So you can probably guess that my luggage is also old and tired.
My must have item is a pair of “dressy” runners. I can wear them with a huge variety of clothes and they are great for long days of walking around.
Chewing gum and earphones for the plane. Travel size books and games to occupy the kids. I keep a bag in both cars with these so that if we are going on a long car ride or over to someone’s house (non-child friendly) I have my bag ready and don’t worry that the kids will get bored.
My must have travel ‘item’ is my husband..but if he can’t come (!) then I’d say special kids ear phones that stay on and are comfortable to wear. Its worth the extra $ to ensure a smooth and comfy trip for all!
My must have travel item is my compact umbrella. Never go to far from home without it. There is nothing worse that getting caught in a rainfall.
My most have travel items are my laptop, magazines, camera, chewing gum, hairbrush, lipstick, lots of tissue paper and games for the kids.
As a mom of 4, the toys and books are a given so the number one thing that I MUST travel with are large ziploc bags! They are great for keeping things neat and tidy – and for all the yucky things along the way…
What I really need is new luggage. I have very very old bags and my MUST HAVE itme is sunglasses….
After having child I never travel without my mini first aid kit where I have everything from bandages to Tempra.
My must have travel item is a big bag of toys and snacks for my daughter. That will keep us all happy:)
I keep a toiletry bag filled with product samples. Their small size make them ideal for carry on luggage plus I am always ready to travel.

After the vacation when all the sand is cleared out of sandals and bathing suits and you’re back to reality, those pictures bring it all back.
My must have for travel is always a book. This will get me through any travel delay, and a long sleepness night on an airplane, especially if it’s a really great book that I can get lost in.
Dollar store trinkets/toys to surprise the kids with every once and a while.
a pillow as I tend to sleep in any vehicle plane train etc when I ‘m not driving
I like to pack Zip-lock bags to pack sundries in, and take a bag of lavender to put on my pillow for sweet dreams!
Underwear/ toothbrush/medication Bon Voyage
I’m an overpacker – so my list is HUGE! But some items that come to mind right away are: eye glasses, phone & charger, facial cleansers, all necc. ID, extra contact lenses, lounge pants, USB stick with impt. docs, fave jeans, fave lipstick… and much more. The bag above looks great – nice to see so much storage in a soft-sided pack. Thanks!
I absolutely can’t leave home without my toothbrush; toothpaste; face cleanser amd cream and my makeup!
Definitely my ipod and my camera.
I can’t go anywhere without my book and my knitting, both are must haves!
Lots of snacks for the kids and my iPod!
My must have item is Gluten Free snack’s in my carry on bag!!! Myself and a member of my family have Celiac Disease. It can be difficult, if not impossible to find gluten free food at the airport. The other reason is that even when we order a gluten free meal in advance for our flight……it almost never makes it to us. So this is a must have for sure.
Lots of snacks for the kids and my iPod!
My must have for any trip is a great book & a reading light. There’s nothing worse than trying to stay awake (to avoid the stiff neck) without something to read. Btw, obviously I’m not the driver on our trips, that could get dicey while reading! 🙂
Oh my ,,just choose one,,,gotta have a chocolate bar…plus a pillow
My essentials include my travel sized toiletries that I have packed so that I know I have everything I need (including some that are in one of those little bags for liquid carry on items) and a book.
I have two ‘must have’ travel items. First one is my collapsible cane. Once on the train, I fold it up and neatly tuck it into the side of my knapsack pocket. Second must have is my knapsack. Since I’m disabled and carry a cane it is somewhat harder for me to travel with a normal suitcase and carrying a knapsack on my back keeps one hand free.
My must have travel item is my inflatable neck pillow. It’s compact and yet so comfortable when I feel for a snooze.
My must have is my half pillow, small but needed to rest and my girls barbies..she cant leave without..I had a trip once on the train that a 5 hour trip took 14 hours..we were finally allowed to go to the bagage car to retrieve items but after seeing injside the bag car .I now bring enough on with me to sustain for 2 days if need be..
of course a bag! if i didnt have all the essentials with me i would not travel..i always travel once a year internationally..and each trip could take up to 15 hours with transit..so my bag is the most important item in any trip!
Good pair comfy of shoes for shopping!
My must have travel accessory is hand cream. THe second I get on a plane the moisture sucks right out of me. I apply it nonstop.
My must have travel item is baby wipes. I don’t have a baby anymore but I always keep a baggie of wipes in my perse. They’re great for wiping hands, faces, cleaning up small spilss on clothing or car seats, makeup removal, freshening up…etc, etc. Oh and when, travelling with children always carry a change of clothes in a ziploc bag.
I definately don’t forget to pack a neck pillow in my backpack which I feel is more easy to carry around and leaves my hands free!
my must have travel item is my hair straightner. hotels usually have a blow dryer available so once i do my hair in the morning it is easy to touch it up for a night out if i have my straightner handy.
My must haves are my feather pillow, my ipod and to travel I always wear my trusty PJs to keep me comfy!
Since I always travel with my daughter now we need snack foods since she rarely likes travel food and some surprises to lighten the mood on long trips.
My must have is hand sanitizer. It is a quick and easy way to ensure hands are clean before eating. Also since I have been to several destinations where there are no washrooms the hand sanitizer is a lifesaver! Small and easy to pack in a ziplock bag for air travel.
My must have travel item is my camera and husband and my kids. We never know what funny or interesting adventures you will have when we are all together!
My must have item is a book. I can’t sleep on planes so I need something to keep me entertained.
My must have are my zip-off cargo pants. I can wear them if it hot or cool and easily zip them on and off during the day as the temperature suits. They have lots of pockets to store things in so that my hands are free for other tasks. My one pair even has an inner pocket to stash money in if needed. To top it off these pants cut down on the amount of clothes I need to pack because they are so versatile.
Little black Dress in case of a last minute invite somewhere nice where jeans just would not do LOL
My numero uno item in my carry on is my bathing suit. If my luggage ever gets lost my bathing suit is irreplacable.
My must have? A great book! I can get lost for hours and pass time without getting upset about delays.
My must have is my Heys purse, is slim, and has perfect pocket for passports, and is worn across the front. So not a fanny pack 🙂
My phone is a must. After sleeping through our Travel alarm and missing our flight back home during the busiest travel time of the year, my BB is a must so we can set up as many alarms as possible to avoid “sleeping in” -Yikes!
I am always having to pack things for my kids, their favorite stuffed animals they like sleep with etc!
A few of my must have items include a battery operated alarm clock, hairdryer, shoes, laptop, camera and a good book.
My must-have items are lip gloss, gum, a good book, and lots of activities for the kids – never leave home without a pad of paper and some crayons!!
I always bring a good book (usually a loooooooooong one, because, you never know about delays, etc.). Since I never know how my luggage is going to fare, I take trial sizes of my toiletries and a change of clothes (especially underwear… LOL)

For years, I did a significant amount of business travel. I don’t travel for business anymore, but we have a trailer up north and visit my parents in St, Catharines frequently. As a result I always keep my cosmetics bags and shower bags packed, so that I can quickly pull together a bag and head out on the road. Yes, it means I have duplicates of my key personal care products, but it also saves me loads of time and I never discover that I didn’t remember to pack “that”.

When I travel I make sure that my daughters can handle their own stuff. We find that a backpack with wheels works best because they can’t carry too much weight for long. I also make sure everything fits inside the backpack. Once, my daughter lost her stuffed dog that she was carrying. She cried on the plane for hours because of that lost dog!!!!
My must have items are my collection of trial size samples of potions & lotions that I keep specifically for traveling.

Our hot pink “Trunki” is aways easy to roll about at the airport with two kids on it and it is sturdy enough to withstand all the rough manhandling it endures.
Must have Tervis Tumbler Travel Mugs for the adults and Nintendo DS for the kids!
I have to take my travel pillow that i purchase as it is shaped like a “U” and wraps around your neck so you don’t get a stiff neck, the pillow doesn’t slide, and you won’t drop it or lose it.. lol when you sleep.

I always bring extra large ziploc bags. For wet swim suits that didn’t get a chance to dry, shampoo bottles – so they don’t explode all over my clothes, and for us to carry snacks in or save leftovers from when we eat out.
My must have travel items are my skin and lip moisturizers. Nothing worse than dry craked lips. Also good walking shoes. Blisters on the feet are the worst.
