Today was cold and rainy and we were all in need of an outing. We decided to try out IKEA for an evening’s entertainment. Well, well why hadn’t we tried this sooner?
Priority parking for people with kids underground and in close proximity to the front door.
Dinner $1.99 for kiddie fish and fries and for another buck a jar of organic veggie baby food. Highchair, bib and clean up crew courtesy of the Swedish retailer.
Entertainment- FREE
We romped around the kids section… bounced on the beds, crawled through tunnels, had a puppet show, played endlessly with the cupboards on the mini kitchen and hugged the stuffed animals. Hours of free and fun entertainment for Mama, Auntie and Roman.
We may become regulars.
What’s your favourite place for a cheap date with your kiddies?

I couldn’t agree with you more!

Yeah, indoor malls of any kind are usually a good bet. But Ikea’s got tasty, inexpensive food… I don’t drive, so I never went there with my kids for entertainment purposes. Glad you’re finding it to be a winner!!

My favourite is an outdoor city ice rink in the winter or park/splash pad/pool in the summer. My kids are older though so I just need to sit back and relax while they have fun!
Sara says
oh yeah the Ikea date is amazing. The best place though is the middle square at Sherway….it’s a beacon for all kids – they run and play…you drink coffee. And a pet store visit as well…

Since we are petless for now (waiting for the perfect furr-person to come along) we love an outing to PetSmart to see all of the pets up for adoption, getting hair cuts/styles and all of those animals wandering around with their two legged parents! Lots of opportunity to see all kinds of different animals and it’s free of charge!
Can’t wait until Spring as Peterborough has a wonderful Zoo and splash pad within. It is free and you can take your lunch for a nice relaxing day spent by the Otonabee River. The train ride is a buck or two (kids under 2 ride free whoo hoo) and we have lots of fun! You get up close and personal with all of the animals.
Going to the local fire hall is a great place to check out the big red truck, police station, ambulance bay and train station are more than happy to entertain a curious little boy.
Our local grocery store has little carts for the kids so this is now my daughter’s favorite place to shop (we go there off hours and the aisles are wide so no bumper carts happening). I have her put the few items we need in her cart and she is very happy. We do a Costco run as well (all of the taste tests are perfect size and we have tried lots of new items because of it).
That is a week in review (naptime is another story…)
