Oh, I’ve been having fun watching some YouTube videos related to the election. And I’ve been reading the party platforms. Today’s Sunday Surf is dedicated to the 41st Canadian General Election.
This one had me rolling on the floor it’s so funny. Although, I guess if you’re a Harper supporter you won’t think it’s funny. I personally think Harper is a micro-manager, a secret Tea Party member, a liar, manipulative… I could go on but I won’t. This little video exposes his gross errors and lies in a very amusing manner.
This one is about vote swapping to keep the Conservatives from winning a majority (or a minority for that matter).
Go to Project Democracy to see how your riding is shaping up. If you are thinking about strategically voting, this site will help you decide how to best keep Harper out. I was thinking yesterday that I would have to vote strategically but this site informed me that the Liberals are a shoo (shoe?) in so I can vote with my conscience, likely Green because I think that Elizabeth May is the smartest of the bunch and has the most integrity.
Shit Harper Did got so many hits on it’s first day that the site crashed. This is an amusing site that highlights some of the worst of the Harper years. Of course it’s biased, as are all of the above sites but I like a little amusement during election time. I love political satire.
I will continue posting about the election and will try to put together platform summaries soon. Of course, you can’t always believe elections promises, but it’s a place to start.

that was great! funny, it this was two characters saying the exact same words in “normal” voices, you might not pay attention quite as much as i’m sure there would be lots of screaming involved. because it’s so monotone you really have to listen (and the swearing just makes it!)
wouldn’t it be great if mercer could change the election? not in a manipulative way, but to get some interest out there and make people care!

Thanks for commenting Cyndie.
I should have included @rickmercer’s rant on this surf! I really hope that the youth do come out in droves. And that there are more campus polling stations.
One thing I am doing with my class is Student Vote. Obviously I can’t be so anti-Harper with them, I want them to make up their own minds and Student Vote is a good way to do it. Interestingly, last time I did it, in 2006, the NDP won because their platform was popular with the kids.
I’m looking forward to meeting you in person at C4C21!

Great post Erin! I’m thinking how important it is to make the MMP a critical issue going forward. @rickmercer is doing a phenomenal job of getting the 3 million youth 18-25 engaged in democracy and we, as teachers, should be helping. Anything they do is likely going to be harmful to Harper. That alone is worth the time and energy to focus on getting the youth vote out.
I love these videos!
