We just came back from an action-packed visit to Calgary. The trip was good. It’s quite exhausting travelling with three kids, but always worth it in the end. We had great quality time with family, caught up good friends, and experienced Calgary at its most festive.
The Stampede was on in full force during our stay. We took the kids to the Midway to enjoy the rides. We sampled the infamous Mini-Donuts, which, I must say, just might be THE BEST THING EVER. They must be eaten fresh, and I strongly recommend only buying a few. Because once they are in the vicinity, they are irresistable, especially after being freshly tossed in cinnamon and sugar!
I was amazed by the neighbourhood parties that seemed to pop up everywhere. We attended a great one with my inlaws, hosted by Kennear Financial. There was great food, loads of Western ambience and a performance by Randy Bachman. The Globe and Mail covered this party in their Stampede section.
One of my favourite things about Calgary is the abundant natural beauty right at our fingertips when we stay there. My inlaws live downtown, but within minutes, I could walk to a scenic river bed surrounded by leafy greenery, with the mountains dancing in the distance. I took advantage of this gift daily, taking many long walks in and around Southwest Calgary with some great company, my father-in-law.
