The Christmas Spirit came from Russia this morning.
My sister and I started a diaper drive right before my second trip to donate much needed diapers to Roman’s orphanage. We raised funds to help with the adoption expenses, a donation to the orphanage and to contribute to the diaper supply. Through some networking and some good luck Cat secured a contact at Huggies Russia and they agreed to donate and deliver the diapers on behalf of Roman. We hoped this would happen while I was in Russia so I could share the good news with everyone that had generously supported us.
We had confirmation that the donation would be made but could not get confirmation of the quantity and details of the delivery date. It did not happen while I was there but felt pretty confident that it was left in good hands and would happen soon. Every week we checked in to see what the status was and every week we were told that there was a logistics problem but they were working on it. It turns out some Christmas spirit was the last push needed to make it happen.
This week the email came from Russia from our Huggies contact with the good news we had been waiting on.
Delivery will be made tomorrow to Roman’s orphange!
Due to the generosity of our supporters and Huggies Russia, close to two hundred boxes of diapers will be delivered tomorrow
It’s amazing what perseverance, generousity, timing, luck and the goodwill of friends and strangers can accomplish.
Roman is home but I think about his friends in Russia still waiting for their forever families. I think about the Babushka’s that love and care for them while they wait. The diapers are an important practical need for those children but equally significant is the care it took to get them to the little orphanage behind the green gates that was Roman’s home for the first 13 months of his life.
It took Cat’s talent as a publicist to get through a large corporation and find the person who could help us. It took that person to care enough to make the arrangements. It took the generousity and love of so many friends, family and strangers that donated so that one little boy could come home and a much needed gift sent in his honour.
When people open their hearts, their gestures add up to miracles. It happens everyday, it happened for us, I hope that it happens for you too.
