Are you a fan of the HBO True Blood series? Then have we got a giveaway for you! The series is based on the Southern Vampire novels by Charlaine Harris, and we’re giving away 10 copies of EACH of the 7th and 8th novels in the series. It won’t be until June 2010 when season three of True Blood airs, so this is a great chance to get caught up on Charlaine Harris’ entire series (Penguin is currently re-issuing the entire Sookie Stackhouse backlist).
Here’s a bit more information on the two titles:
All Together Dead (7th novel): Louisiana cocktail waitress Sookie Stackhouse has her hands full with the shapeshifter Quinn, a possible new man in her life, and the upcoming vampire summit. With her power base weakened by hurricane damage to New Orleans, Vampire Queen Sophie-Anne is vulnerable to those hungry for a takeover. Sookie’s job at the summit is to support Sophie- Anne. But she’ll soon discover just how dangerous that job can be, as she is drawn further and further into the vampire world.

From Dead to Worse (8th novel): After the natural disaster of Hurricane Katrina, and the manmade horror of the explosion at the vampire summit, Sookie Stackhouse is safe but dazed, yearning for things to get back to normal. But her boyfriend Quinn is among the missing. And things are changing, whether the Weres and vamps in her corner of Louisiana like it or not. In the ensuing battles, Sookie faces danger, death-and once more, betrayal by someone she loves. And when the fur has finished flying and the cold blood ceases flowing, her world will be forever altered.
Vampires figure frequently in the literary canon – everything from Bram Stoker’s Dracula to Twilight to the Southern Vampire series. Let us know what your favourite vampire story is and you could win a copy of both books! Ten lucky urbanmoms.ca members will win a set of both All Together Dead and From Dead to Worse! To be entered to win, write a comment below telling us about your favourite vampire story.

This is a fantastic series! I never liked vampire books or movies until I read the Twilight series. But when a friend introduced me to True Blood, it quickly became my new favorite! It’s similar to Twilight, just more seductive! I look forward to checking out the other books mentioned here now too! Thanks

Love the series, so I’m sure I’ll love the books. Eagerly anticipating Season 3 on HBO in June. I am totally addicted to True Blood.
Amanda says
I have been interested in vampires for many years now, Ive not had the chance to watch the True blood Series. But plan on it when I have a free hour or so. I have looked for different authors who use the vampire story line and now I know of another one.
I have read many books by a different author, her name is Kim Harrison. And her books include vamps, witches, banchees, werewolves and all the rest of the creatures that go Bump in the night. What I enjoy the most about this series is that the main character is the witch, but she surrounds her self on a daily basis with Vampires. And let her self fall in love with a vampire and also have her heart broken when he died protecting her from the other vampires who want her as a snack.
I continue to read her books and enjoy them alot. And in the times when I have to wait for the next instalment of her books Id love to get into another book about vampires.

I am a super huge fan of vampires, werewolves and everything paranormal. Gena Showalter and her series got me hooked on vampires. Jill Miles, Amanda Ashley are among the many vampire author’s that I love. My favorite is about a dowdy museum attendant who is bitten and then becomes this gorgeous succubus who has 2 masters whom are her lovers. Both are vampires and gorgeous. It’s a really good book if you want a bit of humor, romance, action and steamy scenes.

I agree with an earlier post that Dracula is the best vampire book of all time, you can’t beat a classic. I must admit that I have also enjoyed reading the Twilight series, but they come nowhere close to Dracula.

I have to admit that right now I am reading Eclipse, the third book in the Twilight series, and LOVE it! Since they are written for teens I was a little unsure how they would be but glad I picked them up!
Karry says
I was never a big fan of Vampire novels. I did read Anne Rice’s Interview with a Vampire and it was enjoyable. My daughter had me read her Twilight series and I really enjoyed them.
katylava says
The first vampire story I every read was The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice. Even her other books never fully equalled that one in my opinion. It’s definately my favourite!
Pauline says
I read ” Twilight” and I have to admit I was caught up in it even though it is not my ususal genre of book.
Giggles says
Interview With A Vampire by Anne Rice… Also Vampire Diaries and True Blood tv shows. I haven’t read any of the Sookie Stackhouse series of books yet though
PDLadybug says
My favourite vampire story is from the novel is “Interview with the Vampire” by Anne Rice. The movie didn’t do the story justice, but it was thrilling to see a modern version of the ever old story of the eternal vampire struggling to survive on earth with humankind.
Nicole says
Don’t know this series of books or True Blood….but have read all Twilight series (books were WAY better than the first 2 movies…), and many other vampire stories….these sound good! Queen of the Damned was great…have read some Anne Rice also….reading White Witch, Black Demon right now…
tamerisk says
I haven’t had the pleasure of reading books by this author, but I’m looking forward to. Probably the classic Dracula stands out as one of the best for me
Freda Mans says
My favorite Vampires will always be Lestadt from Anne Rice’s novels. They scared the pants off me then, and still do today!
mlabradore says
I read just about any novel I can get my hands on but I wasn’t a huge fan of vampire books. I did read and enjoy the Anne Rice books but then I took a break. Until…everyone was going on about the Twilight books. I couldn’t understand what the big deal was so I had to see for myself. Well I got hooked, I thought they were a great love story involving vampires and now I find myself reading other vampire books. I have just finished The Vampire Diaries and looking for somethings else great to read. I heard many good things about these books and hope I am considered for them.
ButtercupsMum says
I am a huge fan of True Blood on HBO and I bought one Sookie Stackhouse book by Charlaine Harris. I read it in one night!!!
I am hooked. Twilight and Vampire Diaries are a little too “teen’ for my liking and I know at 36 I should be watching the National or CNN but I am so excited for the new season of True Blood. I can’t wait to see if Sookie hooks up with Eric!
The darker the story the better…
I hope you consider me for a book! I would just DIE 😉 wink wink
if I won!
Toby says
Had to chuckle when I read “Here’s a BIT more information on the two titles”…I’m certain that was unintentional. lol They both sound awesome, and nothing beats a great read. I have to admit I like vampire story lines…of any kind…very intriguing. I think Lost Boys is what started it all with me…:D
Linda M says
I have the Sookie Stackhouse complete stories book – and I loved it.
I cannot wait for HBO to give us another season. Eric is the hottest vampire by far and I know that I am 36 years old, and should probably be reading and watching more mature enlightened material, but I can’t get enough of this show.
(Twilight and Vampire Diaries just don’t have enough spice for my liking, they are for the teens!)
Please consider me!!!
Thanks
Cindy says
I really love Queen of the Damned & still watch it from time to time, it’s sexy & scary, just like True Blood, everything you love to love about vampires!
Witterbug says
I loved Twilight to a point. It gets a little ridiculous from time to time. I have Sookie Stackhouse’s series on my Kindle, so I don’t need the books for me. My best friend Kaela is a HUGE True Blood fan and wants to read the books, but I can’t lend her my Kindle (it’s like my right arm when it comes to reading). If I win, I’ll be passing them on to her 🙂
Portia181 says
Our daughter would simplyv love these novels it would be something for her to sink her teeth into she loves twilight movies and is a Team Jacob fan thanks urban

thordora says
Let the Right One In. Best vamp book EVER. Don’t watch the movie-read it.
thordora says
Let The Right One In (not the movie, the book) So freaking good. Movie had nothing on the book, and I’m NOT looking forward to the American adaptation.
Liz W says
My favorite vampire novels are series from Anne Rice and Laurell k hamilton. They both create stories that draw you in [granted hamiltons moving into the romance realm]. I ALWAYS re-read their novels. I’m a total vampire canon junkie. I guess it’s the allure of the forbidden and danger but also a curiosity for the plot and what will happen next to the characters that makes it so darn good!
Karen says
I’m not a big fan of Twilight. My favorite vampire novels would have to be by Anne Rice thus far. However, I’m always up to finding another good vampire author. I’m sure the Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood series could be an interesting read.
sylvia shaw says
Wow i love these novels, have read them all and watched the show on HBO
calicok3 says
I have read Anne Rice and Twilight as well. Both are interesting but are not the ones I would rank as my favourite, sorry! This past summer I read my first Charlaine Harris book with Sookie and I am now hooked. I didn’t think I would enjoy the diminutive Southern belle, but she grows on you. Harris kept my attention throughout the books that I have read. Along the same vein I would also recommend some of Kim Harrison’s books. I realize her main character is a witch, but the witch’s partner is a strong female vampire…so that counts (sort of) too?
crystal says
True Blood is tops for sure.
Arlene says
Blood & Chrysanthemums was amazing, but nothing beats her ‘The Night Inside’ installment 🙂
clvrgrle says
After watching the Hbo series true blood I had to read the books and I am hooked. On pins and needles waiting for the new ones win them or not they will be added to my library

iManduh says
Any Vampire story by Anne Rice are my faves! They stick very close to the original Vampire “myths” and they’re deliciously sexy to read!
I didn’t even know there was a Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood book series! I just saw the show and fell in love with it. If I win these books that will give me incentive to go out and by all the others. I’m pretty excited to know about the book series!! Thanks for this giveaway, I probably wouldn’t have known otherwise. (Ya I stay pretty close to home lol)
Bren says
