I’m SO TIRED! Like, more tired then I remember ever being before.
I’ve been pregnant before. I was never this tired. I’m sure of it.
I’m used to the first trimester sleepiness. You could literally put me anywhere and I would fall asleep. But this is a different kind of tired. It’s exhausted to the point that I want to pull my car over on the side of the road and curl up for a nap during my drive home. I can barely lift my head off the pillow most days when my alarm goes off at 5am (yes, 5 am. I weep inside every time I see that time) and I feel like a zombie going through my day. I don’t return emails (too tired), make gourmet meals (ha, I’m joking, but I’m barely making what you could consider meals in general), talk to my friends (too much effort to lift the phone to my ear) or really play and engage with my son (other then playing, “massage mommy” or “bring mommy the remote” or “let’s pretend I’m Jeff from the Wiggles and always falling asleep”).
Let’s face it, I’m just zonked. And I’m coming off a two week holiday where I actually did get (some) rest and (a bit of) relaxation. None the less, I’m falling asleep at 8pm which means work is suffering, my husband probably doesn’t know my name anymore, and my TV life is suffering greatly (Parenthood, Modern Family, I miss you!)
My main problem is not, shockingly, staying awake. It’s figuring out how to exist in such a foggy state. My usual go to (DIET COKE AND COFFEE!) are two things I don’t drink while I’m pregnant. Other then blasting cold air in my car as I drive to and from work and taking a way colder then normal shower (no really, I do) in the mornings, I’m at a loss as to how to perk up and look alive. I guess having a toddler at home, a full time job, selling our house (yes, we’re crazy) and having a baby on the way is more then I bargained for. So unless any of you have any thoughts on how to get some pep back in my step, I guess I’m whinnnnnnnnnnnnnnning all the way to the makeup counter to find something to cover these black circles under my eyes.

I remember those tired days. Do they have a nap room at work (seriously, some workplaces have these now!)? Can you work from home at all? I hope you can find some way to not commute so much. I worry about you falling asleep at the wheel!

I’ve definitely felt pretty lazy come the end of the day. The thought of preparing a decent dinner is often daunting. These days I try anything I can to bribe the husband into making it 🙂 Are you getting the same amount of sleep every night? Having the same schedule helps – so does not over sleeping. Also, you can have a little bit of caffeine during pregnancy if it is the only thing that will help you. One cup of half caf coffee or weak tea would be fine if you really needed it in the mornings. Hang in there!

Hang in there. Maybe third trimester will give you some more energy. Working, commuting and being a mom and wife is a recipe for exhaustion. I am tired too but I sneak in naps when my kiddo sleeps. Just remember it’s temporary. Andn by temporary I mean 5 years from now we should be good.

Sarah,
it sounded like you were describing my pregnancy with the need to pull the car over on the way home from work. I can’t imagine being even more exhausted than I was then….poor you! I love the games you’ve made up, especially “massage mommy.” (They say that necessity is the mother of invention!) Maybe I should start training my 8 -month old?

I leave the house at 6am. If I don’t wake up at 5am, I don’t have time to shower, eat, and whatever else I have to do before I leave for my 45 minute- 1 hour commute (which is only 45 mins because of traffic, I don’t live anywhere close to that far from my work). I can’t stay after work because I have to pick up The Boy from daycare, so the morning is the only time I can get work done, at work. It’s an ungodly hour.

I have to ask why the heck do you need to get up at 5am! That is just painful. Can you give yourself another hour in the a.m.? That might help.
I remember driving to a local mall on my lunch during my second pregnancy and sleeping in my car in the parking lot! I was so exhausted. With the first I would come home and sleep after work but now you have a little boy keeping you awake (even playing Jeff will only give you a short snooze). Catch those z’s whenever and however you can!

No coffee or coke? Yikes!! Well, just sleep when you can then. Really. And this time around you have a toddler to run after… it’s freaking exhausting at the BEST of times!! Life will return to normal (!!) when baby comes… okay, make it about a year or so after that – but for now, just sleep whenever you have time to saw a few logs. There’s no other way.
Good luck to you, lady! Keep your eye on the prize…

I’m with Ali – I did the same. And I’ve given up on any show past 9. Thanks Rogers on Demand. and like you….I totally play Jeff. Just remember there’s an end to it…but maybe it’s training you for how tired you’ll be with two…KIDDING – I’m kidding! Hang in there and emails and husbands can understand….and Z won’t remember – just look after YOU.

I was SOOOO tired when I was pregnant. All three times. I remember coming home from work at 5, eating dinner and then going to bed FOR THE NIGHT.
