I have love affair with the Today Show. It’s unabashed, I have no shame in admitting it. When people say ‘What would your dream job be?’ – I can easily reply – working on the Today Show. I’d work in the mail room if that’s what it took.
The Today Show always makes me think of my mom and Florida. When we’d go and watch it in the mornings (back then it was Bryant Gumbel) and see that the temperature would be in the *gulp* 90’s!!! 90’s what the hell is that – we do things in differently up north. Smuckers and Willard Scott would tell you who was turning 100.
When I was battling with postpartum after having Will, the Today Show was a goal for me to get to. I knew that as crappy and scary as the night was, at 7am – Meredith, Matt and Al would be there to hang with for a couple of hours – screaming kid or not. That may sound overly dramatic – but I’m not exaggerating. When it’s 2am and you’re in the midst of an anxiety attack – a goal is what you need.
Yesterday was Meredith’s last show. She’s leaving to spend more time with her husband who has MS. (because THAT’S what Meredith is like!) I’m sort of happy I forgot or I would have been a few hours late for work. Seriously, it makes me sad. It won’t be the same. NBC is a stickler for videos, so I can’t directly link to it. BUT check out this video of a last minute surprise for her. If and when I ever leave my job, I hope they do something like this for me. Maybe Welcome To The Jungle – a little G-n-R is always nice!
Hey Meredith! You rock. Whatever you do – don’t go back to The View – okay??

i’ve always enjoyed meredith too. she seems like a classy lady and doesnt act like life is over because she is over 40. cant see her completely retiring though. i imagine she has a plan to do some of her own projects.
