Wait, first I have to give you the back story. When my Mother-in-law was last out to visit she asked me if I would record The Bachelorette, as she was missing that night's episode. The next day she wanted to watch it, & both boys were napping, so I watched with her thinking I would be rolling my eyes the entire time culminating in the need to vomit. Basically that was the case, but for some strange reason (possibly because she was here the next week & we watched that episode too) I couldn't help but keep watching. It was the whole train wreck waiting to happen thing, combined with the fact that a bunch of guys making arses of themselves for one woman is semi-amusing. Consequently, my hubby rolled his eyes every Monday night following that I watched this "fine" piece of television.
But then something strange happened. My MIL & I truly had found something to talk about that was our own. It wasn't about the golden boy my hubby, or the boys, or family stuff. We talked & laughed & shared about this silly show. I love my MIL. She is a wonderful woman. But we really don't have a heck of a lot in common. And now she was calling me after The Bachelorette aired out East & saying "I can't wait to hear what you think of what happened tonight!" On Tuesday we would compare "notes" & see who each other was rooting for & why. All this over a show that previous to watching with (for) her, I wouldn't be caught dead watching, let alone talking about.
So, my MIL is coming out to visit in a week & she left a message for me the other day saying how she could barely wait to be here to see the boys, etc. Then she says "And I didn't even get to talk to you yet about The Bachelor & what you thought. We'll have to see if we want to take bets on who he ends up picking." Honestly, I haven't been watching & frankly I have very little desire to. I checked out the synopsis of the first two shows & frankly these women look totally loopy. I'm surprised this poor guy hasn't said to ABC "are you sh#&%ing me?" Also, a bunch of guys in a house competing over a girl become each other's "bros" & a bunch of girls in a house competing over a guy, well to say the claws come out would be an understatement.
So, back to that question. Would you watch a tv show that you really had no inkling to watch, just to have something to talk to someone about? And what if that person was your MIL? I do watch a dreadful amount of tv to begin with, but I really did enjoy the connection we had over the previous show. What to do???
