So far my summer has been road trip central and strangely, three of the past four weekends I’ve spent up at or near Blue Mountain. Before this I’d maybe been up there for an odd weekend here or there – and a wedding when Will was 2 weeks old!
Almost a month ago, I headed up to Blue Mountain with the other Urban Mom bloggers for a ‘working’ weekend. We did! I swear we talked shop! Honestly…well we did once we got there!
I drove up with Mom Inc. Leigh. The beauty of the Blue Mountains is the drive. There are so many different options to get there, you’re not stuck on (&)^ing highway 400. I picked up Leigh early in the morning and we headed…back to my house to get my forgotten wallet. I should mention, I already GOT to Leigh’s, turned around and went home to get my golf clubs. ARGH. So on the road we get until my cell rings. It’s Leigh’s hubby who happens to be my friends brother. Thank god since Leigh didn’t have her cell on and she left with her kids bag. She would have been drinking a martini at Twist in a pair of Scooby Doo pajamas had Rob not called!
We finally got up the Westin Trillium Blue Mountain Resort – home of the ‘heavenly’ bed. I used to think these Westin beds were awesome but now being a constantly underrested mom, I need to up the ante and call them the kick-ass, omfg, ridiculously heavenly beds. And mine was located in a dream two-bedroom, two-bathroom suite with vaulted ceilings. I felt like a queen!
I roomed with Christine, Sometimes Holland Feels Like Hell. I was joking with her before we met that I hoped she wasn’t like the on-line dates I’ve been on where I fall for the person and their incredible conversational skills over email only to find them as exciting as a spring of broccoli when I meet them. But no, I was right about Christine – I could listen to her stories for hours. She’s amazing.
For the weekends activities, I was hooked up with Nancy,of Flying Solo. Our theme was a girls weekend away – fitting as we were the only unmarried women on the trip! We spent our morning relaxing at Le Scandinave spa.
I needed about 6 more hours there. The weekend we were there was a bit cool and rainy and I loved sitting by the fire in my suit and robe. I could have had a stack of trashy mags and a beer and happily spent the afternoon! My only complaint on the waters at La Scandinave was the cold pool wasn’t cold enough. I come from a family where my dad has always pretended the pool heater is broken, I’m used to chilly pools. I love the sensation of going from hot steam rool to cold plunge!
After a quick lunch at 3 Guys and a Stove (I recommend the tuna burger..yumm), Nancy and I were off for an afternoon of laughs and yelling ‘fore’ at Monterra Golf Course. I felt victory right off the hop as the old starter saw us approach and said, ‘I lost the bet.’ They totally thought us moms would whimp out in the rain. Dudes!!! It’s a little rain – I’ve been covered head to toe in blueberry barf before….rain is nothing!!!!
We got paired with two guys named Rob. Both were patient and encouraging…and yes married before you go there. By the end of our 7 holes…we ran out of time…our feet were drenched and our cheeks were sore from laughing so hard. It was a blast. And ladies, if you ever want to find men – go to a golf course when it’s raining!!! We were the lone chicks out there!
It was a busy 24 hours and I’d be lying if I said that I went home rested and relaxed. I did go home charged up though. I had met a unique group of women (and a dude!) who aren’t afraid to put themselves out there, enjoyed some beautiful facilities, chowed on some good grub AND got motivated to find a guy to take on a ‘boyfriend getaway’ to Blue!!!
