Simplifying Dessert

My neighbour came to the door last night. Bless them. They own a farm up north slightly just outside the city. Every so often they bring us a taste of the country with reaps of their harvest. They’ve brought over leeks and the biggest zucchinis I’ve ever seen. This time we were very fortunate to get some of their Honeycrisp apples.

There’s nothing that compares to the crisp freshness of  “just picked” apples. If there was ever anything that signified the fall season for me it would be this taste. As you may have heard, this year’s crop is not so plentiful as in thepast so it makes us cherish these even more so.
So, here I’m thinking of making apple crisps, pies, cakes on these beautiful fall days. But what did my 8 year old ask for since the bag of gold came to us last night?

Apples with warm caramel sauce.
Simple. Good. Done.
Kitchen confessional: I always have a jar of caramel sauce in the house – mostly for my coffee but also for easy dessert requests like this one.
Do you take your family apple picking? Where do you go?

Not a ton of apple-picking places here in Southern Alberta, but we are blessed with ample Okanagan fruit in our grocery stores, and the apples this year are just deelish! Love the fall harvest so much.
