my son is turning 4. oh my god, my son is turning 4. seriously, it’s going too fast for me. i can’t believe that he’s almost 4. It seems like just yesterday that i was fighting with the nurses at North York General that yes, my water DID break. and no, i wasn’t making it up. (for the record, i was right. they were wrong. it only took them 2 days to admit to their mistake and to admit me.)
so, we have to make this little boy a birthday party. With Emily, it’s so simple. 6 months before each birthday, she comes to us and lets us know exactly where and when she wants to have her party, and gives us a list of exactly who she wants there. and who she doesn’t. Joshie’s so much more laid back. he doesn’t really care. as long as there’s icing.
when he turned 1, we had a small party with some of our close friends and family. we had it on a sunday morning and had a pajama party. everyone, including adults, came in pj’s (i still have nightmares occasionally from the hot shlong t-shirts and the boxers. too many boxers…). there was lots of icing on his blues clue’s cake, so he was thrilled.
when he turned 2, we didn’t really make him a party. we just had family and cake. with lots of icing.
and when he turned 3, we had another pajama party for the kids in his class…where no less than 4 boys showed up as superman…it seemed to be the pj of choice.
this year we are going to try something new….and something less stressful than having a bunch o f4-year-olds in my basement. we think we’re going to have the party here. and have pizza and cake. i know, how original. but it works. and he’ll be happy. and i’ll be that mom – over in the corner – sobbing because my baby boy is now a KID. who likes to play pirates and superhero and ride his bike and use my computer (oh my god! he can totally use a computer!) and pretend he’s darth vader.

Joshie sounds a lot like me, actually… doesn’t really matter how many people are there as long as the important ones (immediate family) are, and of course, if there’s a nice sugary buttery icing!
Very cute pictures.

Tell me about it! I can’t believe that Yitzy-poo is going to be 3 in December! What to do for the big bash is still a big old question mark. Swimming pools in the backyard is definitely out, unless the kids plan on going ice skating.
love the pictures of joshie with icing on his face. are there still going to be pictures with icing on the face? or his he any neater?

Oy, love these pics. You can tell how old he is not only by the slimming cheeks, but by the amount of icing on his face! CUTE! He’s so friggin fadorable. The party’s a great idea. Easy. Hopefully for you the air conditioning will be working (unlike my soiree at a different venue in mid-July). Ahem…. They should give you a deal for advertising for them!!!

Joshie is the most cuddly of the kids.
he’s the one who always says, “Mama, you’re da best!” and “i luff you!” unprovoked.
i want to hold on to that as long as i can!

Be prepared, Ali! At my son’s 7th b-day this year the boys were CRAZY!!!! They rubbed cake in their hair, took off their shirts, burped, farted, yelled bad words, you name it, they did it. I couldn’t wait for the parents to arrive. But, great fun was had by all (except mom and dad).
Looks like a great place – clean too!
Isn’t it hard when you suddenly realize they are growing up and there is nothing you can do about it? I had a moment like that the other day. I am holding on to every cuddle I can get because I feel things starting to change. :*(

Hey you – sniff, sniff, sob, sob – my BIG boy is turning 5 in 2 days time….where has the time gone?? He is having a Superhero party on Friday, at home, with the requisite junk food and NO girls (he was pretty specific about that – so his cousines are not invited LOL), well his sister can come… So I will have 10 little boys aged 4 and 5 running around like little idiots for 3 hours…yikes.
I will need a bottle of Margaret River shiraz to cope with it all by 7 p.m.!
