YAYOI KUSAMA is one of Japan’s most avant-garde artists in the world today.
She is obsessed with dots – paintings, sculptures and art installations. Her art leads one to think beyond the realm of reality. Such a basic concept but with heavy impact. She started hallucinating dots as a child and became infatuated with them. Repeating them.
She moved from Japan to New York at the age of 28 to hone her art against her family’s wishes. Then moving back to Japan later where she continues to commute everyday between the mental institution where she lives and her art studio. She sees herself as a dot lost within a million other dots. And the dots are endless – infinite.
She had caught the attention of Marc Jacobs, Creative Director, and the team of LOUIS VUITTON. They collaborated with Kusama for an exclusive capsule collection over the summer including handbags, shoes, clothing and accessories. The collection continues strong for collectors of Louis Vuitton as well as fans of the incredible Yayoi Kusama.
Why I love her? Her art is fun and quirky. And she’s inspired me to pick up my paint brushes again!
LOVE HER.

So cool. I fell in love with her work when my husband and I stumbled upon an installation at the Fairchild Botanical Gardens in Coral Gables, Florida a few years ago. So cool, so bright, so cheerful. I’m a huge fan of polka dots and I’m going to have to check out the Louis Vuitton collaboration. I might be putting something on my Christmas list!
