What is the freaky obsession with some moms and hockey? Seriously, every Saturday morning I go to the
rink and watch my son play Ball Hockey, and every Saturday it is the same thing
– a bunch of mothers who transform themselves into a group of loud mouthed
crazy women.
Before the game even starts they are already yelling things
out such as:
“Go get em Jamie!”
“Don’t let em get the ball ya hear?”
“Come on boys! Let em have it!”
The let em have it always gets me – Let them have what
exactly? A smack in the head? A ball in the face?
Once the game starts it gets worse…….
“Get it to the other end ya hear?” I often wonder if they
can actually hear anything under the helmet…
“What the hell are you doing? Get the ball outta there!”
“Go! Go! Faster! Get the ball! Get it back! GET HIM!”
Then there is the blame game – you know the excuses that are
spewed out of these mothers mouths when their child’s team loses the game.
“Oh well the other team has older players.”
“The teams are never balanced properly it isn’t fair to the
kids.”
“The coach sucks.”
“The goalie is a new player.”
“Well it’s just for fun anyway.” REALLY?
Funny, it sure as hell didn’t seem like the game was just for
fun as they were screaming.
Why do I feel absolutely no need to start screaming out at a
bunch of kids playing a game of ball hockey?
If they win great, if they lose well suck it up and learn from your
mistakes and try again next week.
Is there maybe something wrong with me? Lol, maybe just the
fact that I somehow manage to survive everyday with 8 kiddies and every
Saturday morning listening to a bunch of Hockey moms.
What are your thoughts about Hockey moms? Are you a Hockey mom?
Until next time,
Chantel, momof8crazymonkeys

The new Zune browser is surprisingly good, but not as good as the iPod’s. It works well, but isn’t as fast as Safari, and has a clunkier interface. If you occasionally plan on using the web browser that’s not an issue, but if you’re planning to browse the web alot from your PMP then the iPod’s larger screen and better browser may be important.

I’ll gear this review to 2 types of people: current Zune owners who are considering an upgrade, and people trying to decide between a Zune and an iPod. (There are other players worth considering out there, like the Sony Walkman X, but I hope this gives you enough info to make an informed decision of the Zune vs players other than the iPod line as well.)

You have a huge dream in your coronary heart to get your communication out to numerous men and women, and are terrified of the publicity, so you keep by yourself a properly-concealed key, all the although understanding you could do far more. This is a far way too frequent predicament for vulnerable and spiritually-minded folks, for several good reasons, not the least of which is the fact that the fear of being exposed and even burned (practically and figuratively) lives in our DNA as strong females!

Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

I just saw that several of the previous people who posted needed to repair their zipper… there’s an excellent how-to on how to repair any kind of zipper problem. Check out the link I posted… I fixed mine in about ten minutes.

LOL Racheal! I’m bringing mine next week!:) Love it!

Don’t talk to me about it…that’s why I wear earphones at the rink.

I couldn’t agree more Jen! There are many more positives than negatives! How awesome that your daughter plays! Girls rock!
Jen says
Hockey mom here! I have seen both sides but, in my opinion, the positives FAR outweigh those few people who give it a bad name. My son (and now my daughter) learn so many important life skills and have met some of their best friends.
Chantel says
Leslie you are totally right the positive is that the parents are with them and spending time with them:) The kids would probably be amazed if they heard all the chaos lol
Chantel says
LMAO Sara! You are hilarious! Will better watch out his Mama is a bear! I would love to sit with you in the arena:)

I have spent the last 7 years watching (and cheering) for competitive hockey. I have seen alot of crazy parents and coaches who have lost perspective over a game that should be about fun. I recognize that parents can be overly passionate at times, but there is a bright side. They are at the rink, they are with thier kids and they are supporting thier children. Like you said, the kids can’t hear them anyway!!!!!

I just got Will his first set of skates and a helmet this weekend….I so hope he takes to hockey. I’ll be honest – I’m sort of afraid I’ll end up being that mom…I’m uber competitive and I know my mom was a yeller at my basketball games…but I found it more hilarious than anything. I may have to wear a muzzle because I think it’s godawful but I wonder if they even know they’re saying it.
Chantel says
Phew! Therese thank goodness there are sane women like you out there in the rinks:) And cheering the good plays and keeping the negatives under your breath are the way to go for sure!:) Thanks

I am a hockey mom – have been for 12 years, and am very fortunate to be able to say that in all of those years, there have only been a couple of parents/grandparents I wouldn’t want to sit beside during a game. I have asked my sons if they hear anything that comes from the stands, and they have both said no. Cheer the good plays, and keep the negative comments under your breath.
