The last week has been an amazing journey for me.
First of all I was in New York City with my husband of 10 years this past week to celebrate our anniversary (which is officially on June 23). Getting away with him was so amazing. We left the kids at home with family and flew Porter Airlines at the Toronto Island Airport (Let me tell you it is an amazing airline). Rob had won Porter Airline Tickets to any destination they fly. After much discussion we decided on New York City. NYC helped me come alive again. I was free. I was excited and my hot husband was there to help me rediscover why I love him so much. Finding passion and excitement in a Waldorf Astoria Suite with a bottle of chilled champagne is a no-brainer.
I can’t express to you enough the importance of mini vacations. They are fantastic for your relationship and revive your soul. My hubby and I ate at wonderful restaurants in NYC. My most romantic adventure was The Boat House in Central Park. It is dreamy, I can’t get over how beautiful and romantic, as well as big Central Park is. It is mind blowing really.
We walked along the waterfront which goes on forever and also visited cool neighbourhoods like East and West Village and the Meat Packing District. With goofy spontaneity we hopped on a boat to Statten Island (which is free) and watched the view of the Manhattan Skyline and the Statue of the Liberty,
The travel bug had bit me once again (Rob and I used to travel a lot). I couldn’t wait for the next getaway which happened to be only a few days later…. A trip to Blue Mountain with the blogging moms and Dad at the Urban Blog Fest. We stayed at the heavenly Westin Trillum House. The room was amazing, a 2 bedroom suite overlooking the water and my own private balcony. The suite had a full kitchen with stove and fridge. I felt like a queen. We even got goody bags by Old Navy.
The best part for me was the relaxing and time to think by myself . I was lucky enough to get a few hours hanging at Le Scandinave Spa. I loved connecting with myself again. To think about life and wonder where it is going to take me in the next few months. It freaks me out and thrills me all at the same time. The beautiful outdoor setting of Le Scandinave is enough to melt your worst stress away.
There was also time to connect and hang with new friends. Have you ever talked to people via email and online and wondered what they would be like in real life? Well, I had the opportunity to take it to the next level with the Urban Moms Bloggers (and one dad blogger) and I am happy to say that it was not the least bit disappointing or awkward. We talked, we laughed and after a short time I felt like these ladies were my old friends. We talked about our kids, we talked about how we had changed over the years as people.
I am also getting to know myself better again. After a year and half of having 2 kids I realize how easy it is to lose yourself to motherhood. You need to take time to relax and connect with yourself and the other important people in your life. I can’t stress this enough. I will cherish this special time and I plan on making this a regular occurrence in my life. I can’t afford not to. It makes me a better wife and a better mother. Enough said.

Thanks for all the great comments!
Christine – Of course R. loved the Zoomba Sound Machine. What’s not to love – loud and annoying and large. Perfect kid combination. Sara said it was noisy in the car going home with her and I can say that I am ready to “lose” it. Rob threated to smash it. Yeah, maybe not the best choice but fun to see both the kiddies expression.
Don’t you wish we were back at Blue Mountain with this lovely hot weather? I am planning on going back with the kids if even for one night! Last time I was 9 months pregnant in the winter waddling around. R. loved it there.

Great post, Leigh! You are so right. It is critical not to lose yourself in the process of motherhood and to stay connected with your spouse. It is so easy to get sucked in.
Love the robe pic!
