I’m rubbing shoulders, sipping cocktails and nibbling on party food while chit-chatting with the super elite. You know, the ones that are heads of corporations, the trophy wives who live in the gorgeous houses on Bridle Path, the television and sports celebrity figures. Everyone air kisses on both cheeks and has skin so flawless that you just want to get right up close and see if you’re really awake and not just dreaming this. It’s a well-dressed crowd but not over the top flashy on the most part except for two women – one dressed impeccably almost head to toe in next year’s “it” colour of Emerald Green, complete with the perfectly matched Hermes Bag. The other woman with the most stunning necklace dripping with red carpet glory wrapped in a cotton candy coloured ostrich feather scarf of sort. So, this is what it feels like to be uber rich….. and surrounded by security.
Pinch me. The Millionaire’s Top 10 Holiday List.
The Millionaire’s Top 10 Holiday Gift List , as compiled by SUITE MAGAZINE, was revealed at this exclusive event. The evening was set at the gorgeous…I mean seriously gorgeous, model penthouse suite at PIER 27 Residence on the Lake (25 Queens Quay East, Toronto). Did you guess that was top of the list? Yes, the luxury penthouse goes between 1 and 5 million dollars. Although the event was titled “millionaire’s” I’m thinking this is more like zillionaires. The suite had multiple rooms that felt more like a house than a condo. The laundry room caught my attention and I started to think “now this would make me hang out and do laundry all day”…but I’m guessing people in this snack bracket don’t do their own laundry! The main bathroom (I think there were 3) had a stunning freestanding bathtub in the middle of it’s own room. Dreamy! Elegant yet understated. Yes, this would be on the top of my list too.
Next… Why fly with the masses when you can have your own PILATUS AIRCRAFT? Imagine how much time you would save instead of going to the standard airport? PILATUS is known as one of the most popluar business aircrafts on the market today, not just for executive flights but also for cargo, air ambulances, and government special missions. And hey, you can even design your own PC-12 !
My son, the car lover, texted me while I was at the event. I mentioned that there was going to be a Rolls Royce Ghost and a Ferrari and he waited for me to send him the photos. The Rolls was a beautiful piece of machinery and the Ferrari was a stunner no doubt, but it had disappeared when I ventured to check it out but was informed that one of the zillionaires had taken it for a spin. C’est la vie!
Of course diamonds are a girl’s best friend, right? One FLAWLESS YELLOW 8 ct DIAMOND was on the holiday list and before I got to set my eyes on it, the diamond had been sold, or placed on hold, and was escorted out with the security. However many other diamonds were on display and being sold by RITCHIE AUCTIONS . I was having a great time with the lady wearing the dripping jewellery and ostrich feathers. She was encouraging me to try on a few pieces while she snapped pics to email to her husband. I’m pretty sure she bought a nice little (cough) present for herself.
I too emailed my husband.
(see the necklace above?)
“Honey, this necklace is only $104,000…it would be AT LEAST $250,000 at Harry Winston’s,” said I. (that’s what the representative told me)
He humoured me with this response…“Right on it, honey…credit?”
Along side of the diamond display was a collection of PATEK PHILIPPE watches also sold by RITCHIE AUCTIONS. But honestly, my friends and I were pretty much spending time admiring the diamonds and the laundry room.
The Thompson-Landry Gallery featured original paintings by Canadian Artists including one show stopper by Group of Seven founding member AY Jackson. It always gives me shivers to be able to get so up-close to amazing artwork- especially with a martini in one hand.
Other luxury items from the Millionaire’s Top Ten Holiday Gifts included; Membership to the Royal Canadian Yacht Club, Luxury Vacation properties from Hosted Villas, Tickets to Mirvish Production’s Wizard of OZ, and the finest Nicaraguan Mombacho Cigars.
It was a night fun mingling with some lovelies of the upper echelons while checking out the hotlist and getting interior design ideas that I can tuck into my little pouchette for inspiration and aspiration.
Hey, if you’ve got a solid foundation, good family, you’ve paid your dues, and you do your part for society then why not have a little luxury, right?
If you had a million dollars to blow on something luxurious…what would it be?
