even though i managed to get lost in Union Station, and i had a little nipple slip mishap on the subway, and i’m exhausted as hell and wet from walking to my car in the rain, my day down at IRA was a complete success. look at this loot! it may not look like much to you, but this is like the read-aloud editor’s jackpot right here.
3 *free* advance reader books, including one Kenneth Oppel.
2 *signed* books by Deborah Ellis. yes, i met her. and yes, she was great in person.
at least 25 catalogs (one was even on cd – how fancy!) …filled with hundreds of potential read-alouds for grades 5 and 6.
2 free bags. to hold all the loot. (erm…i probably will never use these bags again. i can’t figure out which one bring the tack-y more – the dark denim one or the can’t-miss-it green one? Tara, my partner in crime today and for all other pd days, did have a point….the green one has a water bottle holder, so it scores extra points)
one complete day off of work. no photo research. no invoices. no manuscript reviews. no emails. no permissions. no reading. score! (but also…no softball…so boo. i’m hoping it was cancelled because of the rain. fingers crossed!)
come on, you know you are starting to feel a little jealous.
Ali, what a great haul. I just love books!
Jen, I loved the MacDonald Hall series…I think they’re something like “I can’t believe it happened at MacDonald Hall”. What about the Choose Your Own Adventure books? I always loved them (speaking of series from way back…) Maybe Hardy Boys or would they be too scary?
the tacky limey green book bag has my vote Ali.and if you don’t want it….
dont you usually post pics of nipple slip mishaps. haha
Oooh… we love Peg and the Yeti at our house. It’s such a fun read and you can’t beat Barbara Reid illustraions (my oldest is Zoe, so we have all the Barbara Reid Zoe books!) Definietely a little jealous here!
Congrats! =)
I am SO jealous! Can you recommend any books or series for a 7.5 year old reading at a grade 5+ level? He gets scared so some of the books for older kids are not appropriate. We tried to read a few recommended by an older sister of a friend but there was a lot of social stuff more geared at older kids. We’ve done the classics (Charlotte’s Web, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, first few Harry Potter, even Anne of Green Gables, etc). Right now he is reading the first book in a series from the 80’s that he seems to really like. It is something like “Adventures at MacDonald Hall” about two buddies, Bruno and Boots, who are at boarding school together and get into some mischief. Thoughts?
