Patriotic and Olympian Desserts

February 22, 2010 by Lisa_Mommed

The Vancouver 2010 Olympics are well underway, and I am busy as the proverbial Canadian beaver planning for our traditional Olympic wrap-up party. Because Canada is hosting the games this year, I’m planning to go all-out on this event. We have a massive Superbowl-style party every two years on the last day of the olympic games, where we treat dozens of friends & family to good food and drink and the watch the closing ceremonies on our large-screen TV.

And in support of Vancouver and Canada’s athletes, I’m doing up a very patriotic dessert platter, with red and white and olympic rings and maple leaves and even Quatchi and Miga.
You can put together a pretty, fun and patriotic dessert party, too, and you don’t have to be a pastry chef to do it. Here’s what I’ve got on offer at my party – not all of it is homemade, but all of it is patriotic, sweet and delicious!

HINT: you can find strawberries at this time of year, but frozen ones do nicely in this recipe too!
Red Velvet Cupcakes from (wait for it): Starbucks

The price on these compares favourably to any fancy bake shop, they’re fresh daily and they are absolutely DELISH.
Olympic Mascot Cookies:

You can make these yourself with the expert advice of Marian, Canadian blogger at Sweetopia!
So even if you’re not having a big party, make sure you do something sweet to support our athletes. I highly recommend the suggestions above!

Those all look soooo delish! I don’t think I could manage to put together those mascot cookies, though. Those are darned cute!
