I’m packed…. Packed for the hospital! Well. I’m packING. Everything takes forever, so I’m just packing, not quite packed.
Nightie — check
Bras — check
Robe — TBA (nothing fits!)
Maxi Pads — TBA
Underwear — check
Oversized Shirts — check
Toiletries — check (mini shampoos and soaps and toothpastes…LOVE!)
Flip flops — check
Diapies — check
Wipes — check
Sleepers — TBA (need to WASH)
Baby hat — TBA (dangit! forgot to get it from sister for like the thousandth time!)
Yeah, so I’m SO almost packed! Is there anything I’m missing? Should I bring a pillow? Should I bother bringing makeup? LOVE makeup. I mean, I try to go as natural as possible, but I love it. So, should I bring it to the hospital? But, when will I have time to apply it? And, do I really want to stand in the hospital washroom applying makeup? Ew? (Hate that hospital washroom.) Or, should I just bring a little mirror? SO many important questions!!!
I can’t remember what I brought to the hospital last time, when my little monkey was born…. EEEE! Can you believe how close we are!? Less than 3 weeks to go!
And, today’s my birthday (September 10). I’m 33 years old! The big 3-3. I feel more preggers than I do birthday-ish today. But, I’ve been treating myself to a great day: the monkey’s in preschool for the morning and LOVING IT; my mom took me shopping for ANOTHER UGGERS nightie for the hospital; my fam surprised me with a surprise b-day lunch; and I went for a FACIAL (while monkey played with my sis and her baby).
Apparently, I’m the first person THIS CLOSE to her due date to hazard the full facial, my aesthetician informed me. I was a wee bit anxious (see Cheaty Monkey for deets), but I’m over it and READY TO FACE THE WORLD WITH NEW CLEAR-PORE FACE.
Tonight’s the b-day dinner. NACHOS. It’s what I feel like. And, cake. A whole cake just to myself. LOVING IT. And, I think I’ll start my post-preggo/breastfeeding health-kick tomorrow…. Or, maybe not.
Oh dangit! I had other stuff to say. Was on a role. But, FORGET! FORGET EVERYTHING ALL THE TIME! Hmmm…. How ’bout you look at these pics of 37+ week preggers me, while I try to remember what I was going to say…:
Hmmm…. I can’t remember still. But, look at the little monkey in the background of the second pic. She SO busy! I keep wondering what she’ll feel like, how she’ll act, when the new baby arrives…. By the way, ahem, keep looking at her…. I figure, maybe if you look at the monkey in the background, you won’t look at my STRETCH MARKS??? Whoa!
Oh, by the way? Those splints on my arms? I have a wicked-arse case of pregnancy-induced carpal tunnel syndrome. It started to get REALLY bad a few days ago, when the pain kept me up at night and I started dropping things all the time…. So, yeah, now I’m wearing those SEXAY splints. I think I look cool in ’em. Too bad can’t TYPE in them. Typing — it BURNSSSS!
I swear, I’m falling asleep right now. You wouldn’t believe how challenging writing this thing is right now. Especially since I TOTALLY FEEL LIKE I COULD GO INTO LABOUR ANY MINUTE NOW. But, that’s between you and me, kay? So, shhh….
QUESTION for YOU? WHAT WOULD YOU DO?: I know the sex of my baby based on two ultrasounds. So, I have a name picked out for the sex they told me. Now, SHOULD I have a name picked out for the other sex just in case? …Why do I feel like I asked you this already? Maybe because I ask EVERYONE from the grocer to the Starbucks barista, to my OB, to Jen Maier (the GORJ founder of Urbanmoms.ca, if you didn’t already know), to the mail carrier…. It’s just, I can’t think of a name for the other sex. I’m just blank! Maybe that’s a sign that it’s DEFINITELY a —–.
Ohhhhh…. And, look at my new change table:
Closet guy’s coming tomorrow to work on NEW CLOSET with DRAWERS! It’s going to be totally practical and fabulous!!!
Want more Cheaty? Check it — at The Cheaty Monkey!
Want gossip? Check it — at Cheaty’s Celebrity Gossip!
And, you knowwwww…. When I go into labour, I WILL announce it here…! And, then we’ll go to the hospital…!
Also know how much I appreciate all your comments. It’s difficult for me to do much more typing than I do for my 3 blogs — because of both the exhaustion and the carpal. So, it’s hard for me to email and comment back. But, THANK YOU. I love hearing your thoughts. Every one of them.
LOVE! xo Haley-O

Well I had one (a back up boys name that is) but the U/S was right and she was a she:) I had the boys name from before I knew the sex though, so maybe that doesn’t count?
Oh and I’d bring the make-up. I always felt like I’d entered an alternate universe and the make-up seemed to help with re-entry after lol. Oh and I’d bring a couple of hair elastics, magazines or a book, some tylenol, (those afterpains the second time are a bitch!) and extra pj’s for you. I (sorry for the tmi) bled all over mine and wished I’d had more. Oh and water…I like filtered water so…
congrats btw. I’m excited to hear how it all went for you.
Happy Birthday!!!

Here from mama’s moon, and can’t wait to see how your little monkey deals with the baby. Mine little girl is just about two and I’m having my baby on 9/21. We’ll compare notes. =)

I would totally take a little makeup, maybe a lipgloss and a pressed powder. I know I wish someone had handed me a bit of something before they started taking photos.
ali says
wait…nightie???
please tell me you won’t wear a nightie in the hospital!!
all i wore in the hospital was the hospital gown. well two. one was on backwards to cover my bum.

Fitting the closet with drawers? Brilliant!
I might have an opposite sex name, just in case. I think if they say boy, that’s pretty safe, but if they say girl, there could be room for error. This, from the woman who did NOT know the sex of her baby and entered the hospital without a boy name!
As for your hospital bag, I don’t think it would hurt to have a little makeup in there, even if it’s just for the trip home (and all the pictures that will surely be taken). I also packed a few snacks in my bag (cereal bars, dried fruit) and some magazines and crossword puzzles.

Holy! just a few more weeks!! I wouldn’t bother taking makeup to the hospital. I think I may have taken it the first time and I ended up not even brushing my hair!! Regarding names…we found out what we are having this time around but I’m still going to be prepared with a girl name too. Just in case!!
good luck and can’t wait to hear the good news!

I wouldn’t pack the makeup, but that’s me. If it makes you feel better…pack it. there’s no harm in having too much stuff.
I would have a back up name…just in case. But then there are plenty of folks who can’t name their kid until they get to know them…so there’s no harm in that either. You’ve got 8 days…right?
Glad you’re packed mostly. I totally didn’t bring any diapers or wipes and I so should have. They told us that they supplied the diapers so I didn’t bring any. Well every time we ran out it took forever to get more. So you’re doing better than me…the hospital also supplied pads for me. Yeah they were the cheapo ones, but they worked! LOL.
You’re about ready. Hugs! Can’t wait to meet the little one.
Anne says
Can you pack a Starbuck’s chai latte? LOL
Make Up….I’d just pack a bit of bronzer (blush) and an appropriate shade of lipstick. Just do you can do a quick touch up for photos.
About the name…I say it depends on if you are happy with the sex of the baby as you currently know it. If you think it is say a boy (I have now idea everyone I’m just guessing.) Then I would be sure to have a brillers girl named picked as well. Because if you don’t have a marvelous girl name picked…well…Murphy’s Law says you’ll probably need it suddenly.
Personally I love Benjamin for a boy. Strong but friendly and can be shortened to Ben. Anne is of course excellent for a girl but I like Eleanore as well since you can call her El, Ellie, Elean, maybe even Nora. I like may names to suit all kinds of situations. They should be suitable for a Lumber Jack or a Prime Minister, a diva or a kindergarten Arts and Crafts teacher, or the CEO of Royal Bank.
I remember this time well. I was ready 2 weeks early as well…then my little guy arrived 2 weeks LATE! A month of dusting around that packed bag in the hall. A month of wondering every night as I difted off to sleep if I would be woken up with labour pains. A month of phone calls where the person calling sounded disappointed when I ansewered…”Oh, so you’re still there…no baby yet?”…uhm no, thanks for asking anything else you’d like to discuss…LOL
But it as all worth it just to FINALLY be able to lay on your stomach again! Yeah Yeah the bundle of joy is fun too! ;-P

i have some good names for the other sex if you want one, just in case…
🙂

Good question about the name thing. We knew the sex of our baby – and I had 2 ultrasounds after they told us, and I made sure each time.
But, my friend was told she was having a boy and then out popped a girl. And, this was like a month before I had my son, so I was super panicky and had a girl’s name chosen.
But, I still had a boy.
Beck says
About the name thing – just stick a baby name book in your bag. That way, you’ll feel like you have all your bases covered.
And yeah, what Jen said – get ready for The Monkey to be suddenly ALL GROWN UP when you get back. It’s shocking!
Lisa says
If they told you boy I think you’re safe with one name. If they told you girl I think you need a boy name. Every error I’ve heard has been told girlbut turned out to be boy.
Jen says
I had carpal tunnel too…ouch! Happy b-day!
LOVE the belly! How amazing is THAT?! So gorj stretch marks and all.
I would pick a name just in case but then it is likely because I didn’t know with either of mine so I had to. Anyway, even if they are wrong about the sex (which after two ultrasounds is not likely) the baby will get named whether you have one picked out or not.
I would forget the make-up. Bring some lip close to feel pretty when you leave but don’t waste time primping when you just want to get home!
Oh, one thing, be prepared that The Monkey is going to look YUGE when you bring the baby home. I mean GROSSLY YUGE. It will be a weird experience. She will go from being your baby to being a big girl in a matter of hours :*)
Steph says
Happy belated birthday! LOVE the change table with the baskets. Hope the carpal tunnel improves fast and lovely picture of you, as always 🙂
