I have just begun my second week of art camp with 10 new campers. The last group was teens and this is an adorable set of 8-10 year olds. I forgot how much smaller they are. And they eat about a quarter of what teenage girls do. Some of them hate everything but naked noodles.
The other night we had, amongst other things, green beans cooked gently tossed in a little butter and salt. So fresh right now. Two of the girls took the beans apart one by one to pull the tiny tiny micro ‘peas’ out and then piled all the sticks in a fashion worthy of boy scouts setting a campfire.
At first they flex their big girl muscles but soon their real age shows. I often think it would be heaven to always have an 8 year old in the house.
They have been cracking me up all week-
“Is this lake a salt water lake?”
“When are you going to give me a nickname?”
“Can I help you in the kitchen. I am a real good cooker”
“Can I sit on your lap?”
“You are sorta like a grown up and sorta like a kid.”
“Can I sit on your lap?”
“What do you do as your real job?’
“Can you tickle my back?”
“Are we going to go bug hunting after dinner?”
“Can I sit on your lap?”
” Can you teach me to waterski this week?” Ummm. I respond, ” This is an art camp.” and then “I know. Can you teach me to waterski this week?”
Growing up is truly overrated.
Sara- I think you would love it!
thank you grumbler. Truth is most people think I am nuts.
Which, of course, I am.
imagine this is your life, Chantal! WOW.
Oh yes on my lap- they are adorable!
Thank you so much, M. Listen if she ever wants to return to class or actually come to art camp- I would consider the deposit pre paid. I remember these things!
Sounds like fun! Did you finally let them sit on your lap? LOL
I hope to go I’m always like a grown up but kind of like a kid…..I want to come to your art camp!
What an amazing experience and an even more amazing camp Director! You have managed to blend business, being a mom and also a great woman all into one. My daughter is a fan of yours and maybe one day she’ll take that leap from my arms to yours for a wonderful summer adventure!
Oh goodness… what a treasured life you have, Village… lucky you. Lucky girls too!! Wonderful!!
That child is adorable…
TOTAL wisdom. That’s what I am saying. These 8 year olds have it all going on. I think it might be the ultimate age.
Aren’t they amazing?! My 8 year-old says the darndest things. My favourite are the words of wisdom like when my girl said to me when I was trying to encourage her to do something she was feeling nervous about and she said “Mom, sometimes people just need a little time.”
we miss our yoga teacher!
wish i was there! Sam
