Our Nightly Bedtime Question

July 30, 2010 by Sarahviz

Each night, while I’m tucking in bed each one of my three children (and yes, I still tuck my 8-1/2 year old son into bed each and every night and will continue to do so until he leaves for college or starts protesting – whichever comes first, I suppose), I always make sure to ask, “What was your favorite part of today?“

Their answers NEVER fail to amuse me.

Sometimes it’s a response as mundane as “Eating my ketchup and french fries”, but other times when I hear  “Being the line leader ” or “Sitting next to my friend in the cafeteria” or “Playing baseball with my brothers” it allows me a quick glimpse into their minds, which I cherish.

I urge you to ask your children this question, when they are calm and cozily tucked in, the bedroom is dark and you have their utmost attention.  You may be surprised at what they hold dear!

I’m like you have done the tucking in thing and my son is eleven and tells me it’s his favorite part of the day, where we sit for a few and chat about what’s he’s done. It’s awesome to share that time with your kids!

Great reminder! And a good exercise for all of us to reflect on our days.

I find when tucking them into bed, I usually get the “real” story from them vs what is said at the dinner time. Besides, it is my one-on-one time with them.

We usually do this over dinner…but I LOVE the idea of doing it bedtime!
