Things are getting better and better around here. We got some new furniture arrivals this weekend. Things are starting to look pretty good.
Got the Buddha on Sunday in Huntsville. LOVE!
Here are some shots. Of the good. Even the kitchen is looking a bit better.
Playroom, half the sunroom.
New desk by the window. The chair cover is being washed. Another long and narrow room which is hard to photograph.
Excuse the clutter (much diminished I must say), but John arrived home with groceries and a new saw for cutting shelves right before I was ready to shoot. It’s all good though because we now have shelves in our tall cupboard! Yay.
We still haven’t hung any art either, have to get to that but we’ve been waiting for the furniture to arrange itself first.
We have big ideas for the kitchen. See new photos from the magazine. We would require a bump out to do it. But….worth it?
Here are the kitchen issues:
Bizarre gap between counter and wall???? Just under one foot. Hmm.
Tons of wasted s[ace in the corner. Need shelves, or something.
Another dream kitchen. I’m collecting ideas.
This one is long and skinny like ours!
A bump out to create extra space, including a dining nook! LOVE!
Don’t worry Tracey, I won’t have a lot of glass cabinets. This kitchen has half glass. Ouch.
Karen, we’re going to do our best with what we’ve got until next summer, or later. I have shelves going in and John’s mom’s baking table coming as an interim work space.
What do you think so far? Any more kitchen suggestions?

HI Karbyn,
Believe it or not I got it at Walmart! We don’t have many shops up here in the North Pole so when I saw it in the flyer, I went and bought it. I love it too.

Wow – do I ever like the look of your house! And I have never seen it, met you, or anything.
Any details on where you got the shelf the buddha sits on? I really like it!

It looks like it is going to be so comfortable/homey! I love the fireplace in the living room and the windows/french doors.
I agree with working with what you have in the kitchen for a while to get a sense about what you need and what works. The placement of the cabinets (and spaces around them) is a bit odd. Can you put a garbage can in that spot btn the wall and cupboard to tuck it out of the way – or is it too close to the fridge to be useable?
I agree with Nancy to fill in with open shelving wherever you can for now.
Are you thinking of the bump out where the large window is now? You can easily replicate the bump out “feel” with a built in bench that is integrated to the cabinetry – love some of the ideas here

I love the little L shaped one second from the top and could totally see that under the window by your back (side?) door as part of your little mudroom alcove. (which I have to say I have been obsessing over – lol).
I don’t know that the bumpout would be worth the expense *for me* for just a small bit of floor space. I’d rather spend that money to (for example) put your laundry elsewhere and improve the flow/space or feel with something else.
Wish I could take you out for tea and have fun sketching out all your ideas.
So glad you are so happy in your new space!

I have no suggestions, but I do love your new house. Hooray for you!

the best thing about that gap….ample space to store LCBO bags! Wahooooo

Looks great, Erin! And I’m so happy you’re loving your new space… excellent!
And, you should totally go with glass cabinets if you like them – they’re gorgeous, for sure! I was just noting why some people are unhappy with the choice… but all your ideas are so exciting!!

all I can say is I love the magic of the fresh new start. Very excited for you and your family! Kitchen colour is like my old kitchen colour which I loved- beauty in every season.
For wasted space make shelves- even open shelving for cookbooks, large serving dishes etc
