I was recently interviewed for this fashion thing by a friend of mine (I promise I’ll let you know when it comes out) but ever since doing photos and things last week, and given the change in weather as of late, I’m back into “tidy-up” mode in my closet.
There’s a finite amount of space in there, you know, and I loathe having hangers all jammed together, with winter things mingling with summer stuff… no, I much prefer for items to breathe. A little space between each hanger makes the closet look amazing, before you even start looking at the clothes. I mentioned before that I arrange my stuff by colour, but that’s easy when just about everything is black. (Heh.)
I like it to look like a shop when I open the doors… it pleases me. And since there can only be so many hangers at one time, when new stuff comes in, some old stuff has to go out. (Or be stored somewhere else.)
In this case, it’s time for this skirt to go – a friend passed it over to me about five years ago. Just a plain black wool miniskirt, with a little slit in the thigh. It was fine for the odd evening out, to be worn with boots and a sweater or something like that, but now? It’s dated, and the wrong shape, and just too short. It’s going in cheerleader-type places which is fine for dirty dress-up I’m too old for that so I’m not going to wear it out of the house. The slit is too, um… slitty (or choose another adjective, if you like) and frankly, I have other black skirts I will always choose over this one. I can’t even think when I wore it last… two years ago? Three, maybe?! Out you go, little wool skirt! Thanks for all the leggy fun.
This little tank top with the ruffles down the front was an inexpensive little darling I snapped up from Bedo early last year, and I wore it over fancy skirts like this, but mostly just over jeans and shorts. It’s faded from all the washing now, so I’m not sure it’s a keeper anymore… but, that was $25 well spent, hells to the yes. And therein lies the biggest reason why I don’t spend a bunch on my clothes: nothing last forever… at prices like that, I seldom have regrets when our time together comes to an end. Clear space for the new stuff, I say!!
But not the shoes! These precious spectator loves aren’t going anywhere, and I will cry fat tears when their time comes… but that day ain’t today. Hallelujah.

You LOOK like you’re nine feet tall! And hey, that skirt looks awesome on you, with your legs, lady. But. But. BUT. THOSE SHOES!!! I would totally jello wrestle you for those shoes, if I thought I’d win. Wowza.
I’ve been hacking a path through my closet, too, as I tend to do twice a year when I do the seasonal swap, though this time has been more brutal than most, partly due to some lost weight that means things don’t fit like they ought and partly due to beign fed up with crampedness in my closet. BAGS are going out. Feels good, too…
Tracey says
Youre so sweet, Irish – thanks. And you know Im nine feet tall, right?! 😉
Christine says
Slitty mini or not, you still look fab!!
I know its the camera angle, but I am laughing because you look incredibly tall in the photo. Or your door looks incredibly little.
