News Headlines for Friday, March 27, 2009

In National News:

Ignatieff_Thumbnail.jpgIgnatieff popularity growing (Canoe)

In our opinion: This one’s funny – it’s not really that Iggy’s popularity is growing, per se. No: actually it seems he’s pretty on par with Harper (around 45%). The difference is that Iggy’s negative popularity rating is much lower than Harper’s (whose negative rating is pretty much equal to his positive rating). Seems politicians aren’t the only ones mastering the spin!

Quebec orders police to turn in Tasers (CBC)

RCMP used Taser only once, paramedic told (National Post)

In World News

Obama_1Thumbnail.jpgUS rethinks Afghanistan strategy (BBC)

In our opinion: Although hopeful that a fresh perspective on this troubled nation can only help, one has to be leery of any solution that involves sending more troops. One thing’s for sure…Obama’s got his work cut out for him.

US, Japan mobilize for North Korean launch (CNN)

Dozens dead in Pakistan bombing (New York Times)

In Entertainment News

In our opinion: Playing with guns is always a bad idea.

Octuplets numbers 5 and 6 come home (People)

The whole octuplet story is just whacked. That woman needs help and I don’t mean just to take care of all of those kids!
