Natasha Richardson Feared Brain Dead after Skiing Accident in Mont Tremblant

March 18, 2009 by Unknown

i was going to update you yesterday morning. i got a tip from my sister-in-law early in the day that Natasha Richardson was in a ski accident and was at her husband’s hospital. we joked about going down to the hospital to stalk her.

that was until i started reading reports that she had brain swelling. and then there reports that she was BRAIN DEAD. and then there were reports that she was transferred to NYC so that her family could say their goodbyes before she was taken off life support.

and then i felt like a total ass.

but, then again, she was skiing in Mont Tremblant (a place i have skied MANY times) on a bunny hill, with an instructor. It was said that her fall was innocuous, nothing major. She managed to walk back to her
room and was laughing and joking. But she was taken to hospital an hour
later when she started having headaches. “She did not show any visible sign of injury, but the ski
patrol followed strict procedures and brought her back to the bottom of
the slope and insisted she should see a doctor,” said a statement from
the resort, which is some 125 km north-west of Montreal.

A rep for the film “Chloe,” which Richardson’s husband Liam Neeson has been filming in Toronto, confirmed that the Irish actor left the set to be with his wife. “Liam Neeson left the Toronto set immediately to fly to Montreal upon news of his
wife’s accident,” the rep said in a statement to CTV. “We do not have
any details at this time but we hope for the best and our thoughts and
prayers are with Natasha and Liam and their family.”

Neeson and Richardson got married in 1994 and have two sons, Richard Antonio, 13, and Daniel Jack, 12.

the loss of Natasha Richardson makes me re-think my resistance to wearing a helmet while skiing

I’ve been following this too, sooo sad. And to have to deal with it played out in the media I’m sure does not make it easier.

i don’t know…but as a pretty less-than-average skier…it’s REALLY starting to scare me away from the slopes!
