It is Ali’s recent confession that she adores BSB & NKOTB that has prompted me to share with you, my UrbanMoms family, that I am an official pop-o-holic. The more bubble-gummy and poppy the better.
I know, it’s disgusting. I revolt myself. But I can’t help it- it’s in my blood and the faster I just own up to it the better.
It started with them.
I think I was 8 years old or so. I traded NKOTB playing cards (the kind you get with bubble gum) with my best friend Lindsay. Jordan was soooooo my favourite and I was sure that I was going to marry him. Actually, positive.
There was a lull for a while, when I decided I was super into Pearl Jam and Nirvana (ya, go figure).
Then, I found these guys.
My eternal favourite. Backstreet Boys. HELLOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can, to this day, sing you every lyric to every BSB song. I can also do the entire “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back)” dance thanks to a summer learning it with my friend Lauren. In my grade 12 yearbook, there are umpteen references to BSB, my eternal love for Nick, and how I’d take Kevin…if I had to.
Although I was determined not to love them, ‘N Sync slowly made its way to second place in my list of boy band love.
So, yes, I’ve seen all these bands in concert multiple times (I may or may not have been ridiculously pregnant during one of those concerts but that didn’t stop me from trying to stretch an old NKOTB tshirt over my massive belly). I am a huge fan still.
But a picker of talent, I am not.
For example- I saw these two acts in concert way before they hit it big:
In other news, I also thought these guys were totally going to be the next big thing:
Ontario’s own B4-4. Google them. You’ll be glad you did.
So, yes, there’s no accounting for my taste, but I’m happily in love with all things Bubble-Gummy and Pop. Although Bieber has yet to make it onto my list of awesomeness, I’m sure he’ll be there soon. The Jonas Brothers have.

Yup, definitely more Amreen’s vintage for me, but I hear ya nonetheless. And Christine, I know every word to the Hoedown Showdown (although, in my defense, I do not know the dance moves. yet.)
Amreen says
Love this! I am the 80’s pop equivalent – duran duran, wham, platinum blonde! only my crew wore more make-up 🙂

My Bedazzler should be arriving any day now! Looking forward to prepping cheezy shirts for the concert!
Christine says
Hi.
My name is Christine and I enjoy Taylor Swift.
I was blaming my children for not allowing me to listen to 102.1 The Edge and forcing me to listen to Radio Disney.
But I find myself singing along to all things pop. I can’t even type the names of some of the artists that i have been singing too. It’s too humiliating.
Sometimes I don’t change the station when I am alone in the van…
Help me.
(Oh btw – go to Wiki and search B4-4 and look under post breakup work. looks like someone’s been messing abound with it. At least I hope they were!)
Sara says
OMG. I’m dying…B4-4….CLASSIC!
They say the first step to overcoming these addictions is admission….maybe there is hope for you yet….
