I love being surprised…in a good way of course. These last few weeks have been filled with events and parties not just for work but with my mommy friends just before the kiddies break for summer. But the other night was full of surprises as I bounced around from one event to another.
I checked my schedule see how much time I had at each event with an obliging friend in tow. We attended the first event at a showroom in the “Fashion District” of two designers – one jewellery and accessories designer from NY, the other is a clothing designer from LA. Then headed to a launch party for a collaboration line of limited edition street wear with a major international clothing firm. It was already a great night!
We then headed into the pouring rain (so much for my hair – didn’t even bother styling it) to an event at a PR firm’s head office – me looking like a wet-puppy. We arrived at the construction boarded-up skyscraper…
ME: “Hi, we’re here for the JELL-OhFace event”
Smiling Greeter: “We’ve been expecting you! Here’s your umbrella we’re going somewhere else!”
ME: “What? Where? I’m confused!”
Smiling Greeter: “The Hazelton Hotel”
ME thinking: SHUT.THE.DOOR. Seriously? Cool.
That was surprise #1.
We walked past the handsome door men into the sleek lux hotel and meandred through the hallways to the event space. I think our eyes POPPED out of our heads at the welcoming “Sweet Table” (up to that point all we’ve had at the two events prior was Red Bull, Champagne and cupcakes). We were staaaarvvving. Everything was made of JELL-O. Including the flower arrangement in “set JELL-O “.
That was surprise #2.
Surprise #3…. We entered the room of the JELL-OhFace Machine. Think photobooth / vending machine / facebook interactive and coupon dispenser all in one. They mention that this machine was created with all these mechanisms just for them and the upcoming public event.
On Wednesday, June 27th form 7:00 am to 9:00 pm you can head over to Yonge & Dundas Square in Toronto to make your own SURPRISE JELL-OhFace! In exchange for your fun shot you will get to select one of three flavours of JELL-O Puddings (I chose Oreo). Your face will be projected on the massive city screen! FUN!
Then visit the JELL-O Canada Facebook Page to see your pic, tag & share your JELL-OhFace! It’s a nifty machine and they hope to take it across the country in the Kraft Celebration Tour. Keep your eyes out for more info!
We all have fond memories of the enjoying this treat as kids and grown ups.
When I think about it, it’s one of those treats that enjoyed at parties, as desserts, as comfort food, and just everyday.
I had no idea there were so many fun ways to incorporate JELL-O into your party foods. I loved this idea! And as requested via Twitter (yep, we tweet from some of the events we get invited to @urbanmomsca), here’s how to make them…..
JELL-O Slices
Mkaes 4-6 fruit wedges
Prep time: 30 minutes
Setting Time: 8-10 hours
1 – 3 oz box each Lemon, Lime and Orange JELL-O Jelly Powder
2 limes, halved
2 lemons, halved
2 oranges, halved
1 muffin tin
Steps:
Scoop out the flesh of the citrus and discard. Rinse citrus under cold water and dry.
For easy filling, arrange citrus halves on the muffin tin.
Stir in 3/4 cup boiling water into each of the JELL-O flavours until crystals are dissolved.
Fill the citrus halves with JELL-O Jelly Powder.
Place muffin tin with citrus in the fridge until completely set, about 8 hours.
Slice each half into 3-4 wedges and serve.
Cool, yes? Wonder if it works in an “adult version”?
What’s your favourite party food idea?
This post is written by me and is based on my experience. It is not sponsored nor have I been compensated. Sometimes I’m invited to events and will share the experience if it’s of interest to our readers.
