Last week we talked about throwing your own holiday party but what if you are invited out? In a recent urbanmoms.ca poll the majority of moms across Canada indicated that they always or usually bring a hostess gift to a holiday party. Add the holiday rush to the hustle and bustle of every day and finding a creative and unique hostess gift falls pretty low down on my list of things to do. However, I have been lucky enough to have received some great suggestions from members and a few unique ideas from our Girls’ Night host, Baileys. Below you will find my top 5 hostess gift suggestions. Share your ideas in the comments section!
1) Homemade holiday baking. Not only is this a great gift for the hostess but you can nibble too! This has the personal touch and shows your hostess that you care. The only down side is finding the time to actually BAKE. This can be made easier by checking out some suggested recipes from Elizabeth in our Kitchen Party section.
2) Holiday gift packs. Many alcohol brands offer really neat gift packs including holiday wrapping or packaging and a special branded gift inside. Baileys offers a few varieties including this one with two tumblers or, my favourite, the Baileys Christmas tree ornament with a little bottle inside pictured below! Which brings me to…
3) Unique holiday ornament. There are some beautiful holiday themed trinkets around. This is a thoughtful and unique gift which your hostess probably wouldn’t buy for herself and will last for many more holiday seasons.
4) Champagne. If your hostess likes bubbly or if you are unsure exactly what to bring, this one’s always a winner. Wrapped up in festive holiday ribbons and bows and you can’t go wrong.
5) This was a suggestion from a member, Shannon. She reserves this one for special friends as it is time consuming but well worth the effort! Shannon is a committed and creative scrapbooker and she has created a personal tradition of making homemade Christmas cards for her friends. She will use a photo of the family if she has one or simply her own creativity to create a stack of personalized cards that her pal can send to her friends and family. I love this idea! Too bad I don’t know a thing about scrapbooking.

I make my own Christmas cards and never thought to give them to others…what a great idea! That little Baileys decoration is so cute. Can I buy one at the Liquor store?
