you’ll have to excuse me this morning…i’m a little, erm, not myself. i’m researching new cameras…since mine took a nasty spill and cracked completely open on the floor of the wedding hall as my mother and i were trying to grab isabella before the elevator door closed on her. it costs too much to fix, so it will have to be replaced. anyone have any recommendations? point and shoot. canon. SD900? A710? anyone? anyone?
i’m also slightly exhausted. we didn’t get home until after 11 last night. the girls were great on the plane…even if the flight attendant called Isabella "a fiesty one"…it’s just the whole travel experience is LONG. waiting in lines. waiting for the aiplane. waiting to take off. waiting to land. having to take a freakin’ bus because the plane is too small to actually attach to terminal 1. waiting at customs. waiting for luggage. waiting for the husband. lots of waiting is hard for children. and for urbanmoms, too. i’m wiped. (although i DID manage to watch Entourage when i got home)
the trip, exclusive of the wedding disaster, was GREAT. really, it was. my mom took off friday AND monday, and if you know anything about my mom you’ll know that was torture for her (and don’t think she didn’t add a little snarky "i don’t even want to think about what’s happening at work without me there" just too drive home the sacrifice she was making for her daughter and granddaughters). but we went shopping and out for lunch and we did the things that moms and daughters are supposed to do. well, we did the things that my mom and i always did well.
she came into the change room and fixed my bra straps….and instead of getting annoyed, like i usually do, i smiled and thought, this is what moms are supposed to do. spend the day with you. buy you clothing that you know you’ll never wear (although i did manage to get two amazing dresses at banana). smile when she tells you that you need to try the bigger size. take you to lunch and eat a salad while you stuff your face with all the french-fried goodness. get down on the floor to play hungry, hungry hippos with her granddaughters.
she did almost everything she was supposed to. almost. maybe there’s hope for our future.

OK, now I think we need to post a poll to mothers of bra-wearing girls/women… What is the compulsion to fix your daughter’s bra straps?? My mother has this very problem. Her hands are usually ice cold and it is inevitable in any dressing room that she will grimace and reach over to adjust MY girls… OK moms, what’s with this?? Where does this urge come from? Tell us please!

I think the key to any relationship is doing exactly what you did – except it for what it is and appreciate it. (not that it’s easy).
As for cameras … I don’t know. But I do know that if you go to Future Shop you can get open box specials which save you some money. So check it out.
We have a Kodak something. I don’t know how great it is, but I really like it.

Nikon D40….I was about to say Nike D40…but that would expose me as the golf whore I have become in the past two weeks. I love golf more than…I’m not going to continue that sentence…could be a potential Thursday Thirteen!

ITA with Haley-O, go Canon. We just got an SD800 IS and we love it. Well, my husband is really the one who knows how to use it, and he loves it. 😉 But seriously, you want IS (image stabilization) because it basically eliminates “shaky-cam” photos.
Glad to hear some of your visit with your mom went well. It just sooo sucks when what should be the most solid, safest relationship in a girl/woman’s life is – not. Hopefully this is a sign of better things to come?

I’m sooo glad you had a good time, and that you experienced the semblance of a NORMAL mother-daughter-granddaughters relationship!
I LOVE my canon camera. Totally. I’d definitely go canon. Mine’s the IXUSi. I’ve had it for a couple of years already.
How did you get through all that traveling BY YOURSELF with the two girls!? KUDOS!
