…The humble Lumberjack Jacket:

Lumberjackcoat

So named of course, because of its lumberjack-ish origins. To wit:

Available — cheap — at any self-respecting army surplus store or hunting/fishing retailer for those low on both cash and class.

Also available, evidently, for those low on brains, but high on both class and cash. Check out this Ralph Lauren version, available for the paltry sum of $750:

But worn best of all by those lovable hosers, Bob and Doug MacKenzie:

And just because I love you hosers, eh, here's a YouTube clip of the brothers Mac:

Anyway, I was recently treated to the sartorial treat of seeing one of my friends wearing one to pick up her kids after school. To be fair, she had just woken up (she had worked the night shift at the municipal jail the night before…I know! It just keeps getting better, doesn't it?). Anyway, I greeted her with a giggle and a compliment:

"Nice Kenora Dinner Jacket, Val!"

"Oh this old thing? That's just my Chester Road Sports Coat."

So, interestingly, it would seem that the humble lumberjack coat goes by a variety of clever local aliases. My version highlights Kenora: I grew up in Ontario. Val obliged by explaining the whereabouts of Chester Road: in deepest rural Nova Scotia.

So, how about you? What other names do you know the humble lumberjack coat by?

Take off, eh! Love it! I seem to remember a certain someone in the 80s sporting a plaid shirt looking suspiciously like a Kenora Dinner Jacket. Maybe paired with some leggings or boxer shorts 😉

We have always called it a barn jacket due to the fact that we would actually wear it to the barn and that the smell of the barn was near impossible to get rid of once you had been in the barn and no one would never get caught wearing it to school…..but my husband friends have always called it a Scarborough Dinner Jacket…..lol
