For the past four years I have been lucky enough to get invited to a fantastic cookie exchange hosted by the sister of a dear friend of mine. She goes all out and prepares a spread of amazing appetizers for us to enjoy, games to play, prizes to win, and an afternoon out that is one of the highlights of my Christmas holiday season. This year was no exception and I came home with a wonderful assortment of goodies that I have been having for breakfast pulling out of the freezer when unexpected guests arrive.
I’ve heard of women who have been disappointed with their cookie exchange experience, where they will stay up until midnight working hard on their treats, only to show up and have the other people there bring store-bought cookies. NOT COOL. I get that your life is busy, but a cookie exchange is KIND OF A BIG DEAL.
I think the key to a good cookie exchange is having a group of like-minded people who are passionate about baked goods and have the cellulite to prove it. I am one such person.
I’ve heard jokes about cookie exchange auditions where you invite a bunch of people, let them know that they’re on probation and that their next year’s invitation will depend on the quality of their product this season.
That should not be a joke. It’s a really good idea.
If you do get invited to a cookie exchange and want to get invited again the following year, I suggest you make these: Cranberry Bliss Bars.

Have you gone to a cookie exchange? Was it everything you hoped it would be? Or was it filled with duds? Any “must try” Christmas goody recipe that you keep in your back pocket for such an occasion? Do tell!
