…does anyone really care?
first she’s going to adopt.
then she’s not going to adopt.
then she’s going to adopt.
then she’s not.
then her lawyer comes out and says “I am not sleeping sleepless nights over this. I don’t see any law in Malawi that can stop this adoption.”
and then two days later, the adoption of three-year old Chifundo “Mercy” James was denied by a Malawi judge.
According to US Magazine:
The judge cited requirements that adoptive parents reside in the
country for 18 to 24 months. Madonna, 50, can appeal against the order.
She adopted David Banda, 3, in 2006 without meeting the residency
requirements, which caused outrage by non-governmental groups that felt
she was using her celebrity status to bend the law. Judge Esme Chombo
had been expected to sign off on the adoption at Lilongwe High Court.
“We support her adoption process,” Information Minister Patricia
Kaliati said yesterday. “Madonna’s been good to us. She’s supporting
over 25,000 orphans in this country, and she’s proved she can take care
of David.”

totally off topic. but lourdes looks really pretty in that pic.
Heather says
Wouldn’t it be better for her to put all that money towards the orphans in Malawi – instead of helping one or two of them and taking them away from their culture? I’m not an expert, but I would think that helping many of them is better than just helping a couple.
Erin says
Yeah,
Except that David was not an orphan, he lived with his father. I don’t know the details and I’m sure that David has a better life materially with Madonna but does he get to see his dad regularly?
I don’t know if this baby is an orphan or not.
Jen says
This is actually sad. Which is better – being an orphan or living with Madonna? I mean, come on.
