well, apparently, word on the street is that no one cares what you had for lunch, but i’m telling you, right here and now, that even though i adore the book, it’s not true, because ali cares. i want to know what you eat for lunch.
because lunch time for me has becoming even harder than deciding what to send the kids to their nut-free schools (and we know how much fun THAT is…what do you do when your peanut-buttery-eating son can’t take peanut butter?!). i’ve done it all, it seems.
i’ve done the eating at my desk. i’ve done the eating in the cafeteria. i’ve done the going out. i’ve picked up lunch, i’m bought lunch at work, and i’ve brought lunch from home. i’ve even done the i-don’t-have-any-money so i’m going to eat doritos lunch (more than once. sue me)
basically, i’m just curious, a kind of audience poll, if you will. what do you do for lunch? if you work, do you bring lunch from home? do you make it, or does someone make it for you? do you take leftovers? or do you buy your lunch at work? do you go out every day? do you eat with the same people? do you eat alone?
if you are a SAHM, do you actually sit down and have a meal, or do you snack all day long (that’s pretty much what i did when i was home. embarrassingly, some weeks i’d buy myself a frozen yogurt pie and split it into 5 pieces and eat one slice for lunch each day. i can’t believe i just admitted that. one of these days we’ll get around to the post where ali talks about her twisted eating habits and her battle with food…but not today…today is about you and your lunch)
i have yet to find what works best for me. i’m working on it, though. and there are more days that i actually EAT lunch than don’t eat lunch these days, so i figure that’s a step in the right direction. i’ve come a long way from eating rice cakes at my desk…

As a SAHM…. I’m now trying to eat lunch with the monkey…. But, as a preggers girl, I’m NOT hungry at that time. I’m not hungry (conveniently) until the monkey naps. And, at that time, I eat leftovers usually, or a bagel, or something. So, I don’t have a routine really. I eat whatever whenever. But, that has to change when baby comes if I ever want to lose this weight.

I tend to go for a 20-minute walk with a coworker and then eat lunch at my desk, just me, my lunch, and a book. But I often think about re-locating when my boss expects me to talk work with him even when I’m eating lunch. I know, I know, that’s what I get for eating at my desk. But he would track me down in the break room and do the same thing. And my car’s just not that comfortable of a place to eat. And with that, I’m out of options. If there were a nearby park, I would definitely take my lunch there, but then what would I do in the winter?
As for what I eat? Leftovers are first choice (in fact, I’ll often make extra dinner to ensure that I have a yummy lunch the next day). If there are no leftovers, I usually have ramen, maybe a sandwich, maybe a frozen dinner. I very rarely go out for lunch (although I am going out to lunch with another blogger today!).

I always eat lunch – usually at my desk so I always bring it from home – sometimes leftovers, a salad or a sandwich. The only times I don’t eat at my desk are when I have a business luncheon or meeting which is catered. I am usually at the gym over lunch or doing errands (groceries, Medicare, bank, post office, etc.) so don’t have time to “go out”, IYKWIM?
When I was on mat leave with the kids, I always made a point of making a nice lunch for myself, but on weekends, I eat CRAP and half the time forget to eat lunch. Always keep fruit, unsalted cashews and bagel chips in my desk for “munchie” time.

I hardly ever have “lunch”. Not that I don’t eat something somewhere between 11am and 3pm but I wouldn’t classify it as a meal. If I am working all morning and don’t have time to stop at Starbucks I’ll run out around 11am and get a Chai Tea Latte and a ginger molasses cookie. Once I have recovered from my indigestion I’ll have a banana or apple in the afternoon…this’ll tide me over ’til dinner. Yikes, that doesn’t sound very good.
Often, because I work from home, I end up getting a bowl of cereal, O.J., and some fruit around midday. Fills me up and doesn’t take too much time.
But my FAVE lunch (other than eating out with a pal) is walking up to my gourmet cheese shop “Say Cheese” on Yonge St. and buying a small piece of a few different cheeses and a small baguette and then popping into Loblaws for some fruit (usually grapes) and munching on that all afternoon. Yummy.
Then finally there is the I’m-too-busy-so-I’ll-just-eat-the-kids’-scraps lunch. Happens FAR too often.

I mostly eat at my desk. Sometimes it’s something quick from the store in my building – whole wheat bagel with cream cheese and a bag of Crispers for $2.05! I’ll bring leftovers from home – usually pasta and salad, or chili, quiche or soup in the winter. We’ve got some pretty good options for going out for lunch for when I do make a lunch date. I always think it would be a good idea to have some tuna and egg salad mixed up in the fridge to make a quick sandwich, but it never goes beyond the initial thought!

First of all, I always eat lunch .. and I have usually eaten two snacks during the morning at work beforehand. Usually, I bring my lunch, it is usually me that makes it, usually eat at my desk, and it is most likely a sandwich (lol .. boring .. can you tell I am a programmer…ha ha ha ). To be fair, I eat at my desk only because I only take .5 hr for lunch because I want to get home to my child early. I am not really anti-social. And when else would I check out your blog 🙂
But .. I do occasionally go out for lunch with buddies from work. And I sometimes buy lunch and bring it back to work, we have an awesome place closeby that makes warm goatcheese on salad it is so awesome!
