I went to hear Peter Buffet speak at my daughters’ school last week.
He has written a book called Life is What you Make it about music, philanthropy, and growing up with the mythology around being Warren Buffet’s son.
Of all the things he spoke about my favourite analogy was around sound recordings.
He is a composer and said that the signal- noise ratio is what makes a good recording. If quality of recording is FLOW and the signal of our life is clear – we are at our best.
The signal is who you are and this creates your contribution to the world, the noise is the outside world, the critical voice, the obstacles, the naysayers, the negative mass, the confusion, the stuff, the distraction.
To get your ‘pure recording’ of your authentic self, you must work like the devil to keep your signal clear and to push down the outside noise.
I love this.
How strong is your signal to noise ratio?
