I LOVE to drive.
Those capitals aren’t a typo.
When I’m behind the wheel of a car I’m in one of my happy
places. Sure, there are times (stuck in
a traffic jam when there’s somewhere I need to be) when I wish for the ability
to just wiggle my nose and be somewhere, but give me a good car, no schedule
and an open road and you won’t hear a complaint from me.
Sun shining, windows down, warm breeze coming through and
the radio cranked with tunes and you’ll not only see me smiling behind the
wheel, you might catch me seat-dancing too.
Before we left on our yearlong around the world trip last June, I drove regularly.
But for most of our year away I was chief navigator and that
meant my husband Ish took over the wheel.
Now that we’re back in Toronto, I’m ready to take it back.
Only problem?
We sold my car to help finance the trip.
I’m carless and that just won’t do.
So now I’m on a mission and I’m hoping Urban Moms readers will
come along with me.
For the next few months, you’ll find me in this space
talking about vehicles.
My last car was a 2004 VW Passat Wagon. We bought it used
and it quickly became a member of the family. Parting with her was a tough
moment but given the way my children kept her well fed (proof: the sticky back
seats filled with crumbs) and decorated (I believe my 7 year old’s shark
drawing is still under the backseat window in pen) it was time.
In my new search I’ll enlist the help of experts, friends
and neighbours who know a thing or two about the inner workings of vehicles and
I’ll share what they tell me to look for
under the hood. I’ll also tell you about
the things I love and loathe about the vehicles I’m testing in the hopes that
it can help you as well.
When I’m not sharing car reviews, you’ll find information on what’s new and
trendy and making our lives as parents easier in the car buying sphere. And since
we’re going to go through this process together, you should feel free to email
me (heather@globetrottingmama.com – please put “cars” in your subject line
) with any questions or suggestions you
have for the space.
I’m looking forward to taking this ride with all of you.
