Kim Cattrall, Paul Gross & Me

June 3, 2011 by Racheal

I mentioned in the last post that I was at a press junket.  I explained what they’re like, as well as why I sometimes mention Horse and Hound.  What I didn’t really get into was what this one was for.  Private Lives, a smash revival of the Noel Coward classic, is coming to Toronto this fall.  Straight from London’s West End, it will star Kim Cattrall and fellow Canadian hottie Paul Gross.

rPm Private Lives -100-2.jpgNow, I’m a Trekkie and I have a lot of friends who’ve worked with Kim, so I’m a bit biased.  This was also my second time taking her picture, so I knew how to roll.  But I’d never met Paul before, and I have to admit, I was taken aback.  Paul was a complete ham ball though the whole thing.  “Well, we are both gigglers” says Kim.

In fact, Paul kept breaking into song.  So much so, I don’t even know how to transcribe the conversation.  I will say though, he does a great rendition of Something to Sing About. As he puts it “There’s just something about centenary songs…”

Kim’s been in stage since age 10, and truly believes that “We need to support our artists.  We support our athletes, but we don’t support our artists and we have so much talent here in Canada”

Then Paul kept interrupting and they bantered like an old married couple.  This chemistry should make for a great show.

Says Kim: “It’s a show about romance and lost love.”  Says Paul: “It’s about sex and war.”  “And that,” says Kim, “is the difference between men and women.  I say romance, he says sex and war.”

The question I really wanted answered was “Kim, who’s more fanatical Star Trek fans or Sex in the City fans?  And Paul, who’s crazier, Passchendaele fans or Due South fans?”  Alas, my time was up and I never got to ask. Maybe next time…

Kim gives me a warm smile and says “I hope that ended well and didn’t go south.  Due south that is…”

Yes, I smiled like an idiot instead of groaning.  Somehow, it actually didn’t sound corny when she said it.

But I may have been distracted by her shoes…

LOL – no I have not seen his cameo in Barney’s Version (ok totally didn’t know about it either) but I will be watching it this weekend now. I have wanted to see it anyway so now I have even more motivation to watch!

Fabulous photos! Of course it helps when the subjects are fabulous and the photographer, well, is too, too, fabulous.
Can’t wait to see the play.

Never try to reply in the Starbucks line!! You should be able to see her shoes in the gallery. I have a big thing about retouching -maybe I should write about it sometime -but that’s all her.

I met Paul at a Due South Convention (yes there was totally a convention and I went – not ashamed LOL!) and he was absolutely charming and hilarious.
