We’ve just finished May, National Melanoma Awareness Month, but as far as I’m concerned it’s important to stay sun safe all year long.
One of my favourite Canadian companies, Green Beaver, has just introduced a fantastic Organic SPF 30 Kids Sunscreen. The list of all that it’s got going for it is extensive; it’s organic, non-whitening, waterproof and fragrance free. It comes in biodegradable packaging.
These are all wonderful qualities, but as far as I’m concerned, sunscreen is only effective if my kids actually slather it on. I’ve heard “It’s too shiny”, “It’s too greasy”, “It gets in my eyes”, “It smells funny” and many other complaints. My real concern with the Green Beaver was that because the first ingredient is zinc oxide, it might leave a real white residue on the skin.
After a very full weekend (1 soccer game, 6 baseball games full!!) all three of my kids gave Green Beaver’s sunscreen their stamp of approval. The sunscreen rubs in clear and isn’t too shiny.
My kids are all quite fair, and my daughter has very sensitive skin, so skin care products that get reviewed are held up to strict standards. After a whole weekend outside with no burns and no reactions, I wholeheartedly recommend this sunscreen for you and your kids!
It retails for $19.99 a tube and you can by it at health food stores and drugstores across the country.
In the interest of full disclosure, Trend Watch is written by me; all opinions are my own. It is not sponsored. Sometimes I am given free products to review and sometimes I purchase the products all on my own. I was given a free sample of Green Beaver sunscreen, but I was not compensated for my review.
