Being a working mom comes with it’s challenges, no matter what field you’re in — even if that happens being a Hollywood actress. But Kate Winslet isn’t complaining about it, and doesn’t think other Hollywood moms should either.
Winslet graces the November cover of Marie Claire UK and in it, the actress weighed in on the tendency for Hollywood moms to complain about the challenges of motherhood.
“We’ve heard a lot from actresses recently about how difficult it is,” the mom of three told Marie Claire. “But we should never be saying that it’s difficult because we are so bloody lucky.”
Hear that Gwyneth Paltrow? You might remember a few months ago, Paltrow was highly criticized for implying she had it harder than most working moms. “I think to have a regular job and be a mom is not as, of course there are challenges, but it’s not like being on set.” As you might imagine, that didn’t go over well.
Winslet on the other hand is singing a very different tune. She’s privileged, she gets it and she knows that complaining about the difficulties amidst that privilege just doesn’t make sense. “It’s just not an OK thing to share. It’s always a juggle, but isn’t it for every working mother?” she told the magazine.
With that being said, Winslet did open up about some of her own personal challenges of being a working mom — the transition from home life to work life. “The thing for me personally that is a difficult transition is that my life at home is just so different to my life at work,” she confessed. “It doesn’t matter which of the two is harder, it’s the emotional — rather than logistic — jump from one place to another that’s difficult. The juggling of it all…”
Apart from talking motherhood, Winslet also dropped two tiny bombs in her interview with Marie Claire UK. For one, she’s turning 40 next year, which seems pretty unbelievable considering she’s barely aged. She also opened up about her longtime friendship with Leonardo DiCaprio and how it “was never any romantic thing.” Honestly, that quote alone just crushed my 90s fangirl heart into a million pieces. One can only dream…
