There’s something about January.
Something that SUCKS.
Last year, the moment I turned the calendar’s page to January, our house got hit with head lice, my husband left on a three week-long business trip to South America and my preschooler suffered frightening night terrors/tantrums every day of the month.
It was rough.
And now, here we are, January 2013 and it’s been pretty lame.
First, the transmission on our van (which had previously been rebuilt twice already) gave up the ghost on the way to the ski hill and we found out it’s going to cost $4000 to repair. The thing is, we only paid $3800 for the van itself. This does not compute.
Then, Brinley started barfing at the cabin. Then Karenna started barfing at the cabin. Then they both tandem-barfed all night long at the cabin. Then I died.
Since being home, Brinley’s developed a hacking cough that prevents her from sleeping and she gags on the phlegm she’s bringing up and I took her to the walk-in clinic last night and the doctor said the infection is in her lungs now and is basically the early stage of pneumonia. We’ve got her on antibiotics* so hopefully we can nip things in the bud. In the meantime, I have netted 10 total hours of sleep over four nights. This also does not compute.
I feel like this:
January can KISS IT.
*I realize that these are all first-world problems and I am thankful for access to health care, and an extra vehicle to drive, and I know that vomit isn’t the end of the world. I am just so sleep-deprived that it’s hard to function and it casts a dark cloud on my days.

Ugh, that is just nasty. Tandem-barfing is the worst! And the older I get, the more jealously I hoard my sleep-hours. 10 hours in 4 days? THAT IS ASS. Give the family (and yourself) a sleeping pill and don’t wake up ’till February!

I’m dying at the ‘bowl of fuckery’…. UGH – HAng in there -January BLOWS.
It always does. You’ll get there! Hope you get a sleep (and a break) soon!
Tracey says
Dude, I hear you. And I’m SOOOOOOO sorry for your bowl of fuckery – first world problems or not, all thing are relative, and all that illness and car trouble and sleeplessness just blows. Seriously. 🙁
Hang in there, sistah – February is near(ish).
