So, it’s December in a couple days and I am not even remotely ready to get into the Christmas spirit. I feel like I am still catching up from the busy pace of the fall, still trying to stay on top of all the usual needs of the day, and the thought of digging out the Christmas decorations, planning out my holiday baking and draining the bank account on stuff that no one needs isn’t really yanking my chain.
I think I have a case of PMS-induced Scrooge. PMScrooge? Yes.
This weekend is the Festival of Lights when everyone from our quaint little town gathers downtown to eat mini donuts in the dark and then “ooh!” and “ahhh!” when all the Christmas lights get turned on at once.

It’s usually a really festive, feel-good time and I am hoping that it will help drag me out of this pre-holiday slump I find myself in and help springboard me into some excitement about the crescendo to Christmas.
Anyone else feeling grumpy and overwhelmed about the upcoming holidays? Just me?

Just remember you can only do what you can do!! Don’t worry about making it all perfect!! The kids are going to love it no matter what. We tend to get caught up in all the details, just enjoy the next few weeks because after that it is going to get really freaking cold and then there will be something to be grumpy about!!!

I’m the total opposite for once! I think because my kid is really getting it and I’ve been a hater for so many years. He really has me in the swing of it. But Amanda – as a former xmas loather….I”m with Julie – don’t force it!!!
Julie says
don’t force it, just enjoy these days. you have a healthy family, good job, a kid with no teeth (i loved that picture!) i get the christmas spirit in july sometimes. it’s just a mood and when it hits, just go with it…and if you need some liquid joy to make it last longer, all the better! 🙂
and, if it doens’t hit, just start watching tv…i just saw a tearjerker of a canadian tire commercial! just waiting for a holiday tim horton’s one now!

I am sort of with you. My tree is up, only because is white and pink and totally goes with my house! I love real pine plants and wreaths so those are also up and my shopping is almost done. BUT I am totally annoyed and not in the mood to spend tons of money on my in laws and that side of the family, who I can’t stand, never see and dread thinking of an excuse as to why we won’t see them this year. I love the Christmas spirit but not all the money being spent of things no one really needs!

I’m kind of the same. It’s almost December and I have barely started Christmas shopping and I’m just not that into it right now. Maybe it’s a money thing or the fact that December is so jam-packed already! Last year I tried to do everything and spent the whole of December feeling rushed and I really don’t want to do that this year.

I AM SO WITH YOU. I am going to need a lot of liquid joy to get me in the “Christmas spirit” (whatever that even MEANS).

You and me both! All I can think of is how much I already have, how much I really don’t need and how many people have nothing. I’m praying once I do get in the “mood” it’s the Holy Spirit filled, Jesus’ birth kinda mood. Of course that mood is highly elevated by Christmas at Starbucks…
