I sit here, grabbing a moment of (relative) peace (otherwise known as bedtime) amidst the chaos of my life at present. Here’s the inventory of my crazy life:
- report cards are due in a week
- I get possession of my new house in a week
- I move in 10 days
Out of these three major events, I feel most prepared for report cards. I have been remarkably organized and now mostly need to just enter all the marks and comments into our reporting system. As for getting possession of the new house, that shouldn’t be too hard. Show up, get the keys, look around again and plan where to put stuff. Easy.
It’s the moving that’s crazy. See, I haven’t packed. A thing. At all. My kids have packed up some of their possessions (on their own, without me being present to encourage liberal purging…) but as for the real packing, the major packing, nada. So anyway, I did book the movers for an extra day to do the packing, it’s just that anything I can pack, they don’t have to, which in turn saves me money.
And speaking of money, I’ve been trying to get my house ready to list. I know, it sounds backwards to move into a new place first, but honestly: there’s just no way I could have managed working full-time, being a mom AND getting (and more importantly KEEPING) my house sale-worthy. So. I’m moving first, listing second. In the meantime, I’m trying to accomplish as much as I can in the spare moments afforded to me. I have painted about 95% of my house, and hired painters to finish off the hard stuff (read: 16-foot ceilings in the living room). I have hired a carpet-cleaning company to come in the day after I move, and I’ve spent every moment of non-rainy weekend weather outside landscaping.
In other words, I am utterly, totally, 100% spent.
But there is a light: a big, bright, wonderful light at the end of this tunnel. It’s called summer, and it’s coming soon!

It was SO helpful to read this as I’m moving cross country this week and it’s all a bit stressful and definitely STRESSFUL! Through it all though, I’m very excited about our family’s new adventures that our in store for us.

I could never keep up with your pace, Kath. In fact, I’m struggling to keep up with the few things on my plate 🙂 Your strength and ambition amaze me. Good luck with the move – I hope it isn’t too far!

SUMMER! You can’t come fast enough.
That’s a lot Kath but I’m glad you’ve hired some help with painters and movers.
I always loved moving into a new place. It’s a fresh start and decorating is fun.
Good luck.
