..and I’ve got milkbones for underwear (that’s a Cliff Claven’ism…)
But for me and Will, this weekend WAS all about the dog. A DOG. And her name is Asta. Asta belongs to my friend Mo and her family and I’ve been dogsitting her since she was a pup. And she loves me.
There are two things I love about Asta:
a. There isn’t a man alive who will come forward and profess his undying love for me….but Asta? That dog loves me like no other.
b. I don’t play second fiddle to Will with that dog. Most people tend to extend invites to me in hopes that my kid comes along. Not Asta…it’s all about me with that dog.
Will has a love hate relationship with Asta. Around this time last year, we had Asta for a while. And if this video doesn’t sum up the ‘love/hate’ I don’t know what does.
This visit, Will took great pleasure in bossing her around. Asta would just look at me like, ‘what the hell happened? We used to take three hour naps together and now I have to deal with this militant little person??’
Saturday morning, Asta and I went to get Will out of his crib and Will was pumped. He looked up and me and said, ‘Asta no have a bum. Asta have tail but no bum, mommy.’ Out of the mouths of babes.
The three of us spent a great deal of time at the dog park this weekend. Me madly trying to get the dogs the hell away from Will and Asta getting picked up by more men then I have in the last five years!
The thing that I noticed though? Dog owners are TOTALLY like parents of kids. The conversations were hilarious. Who has the better behaved breed. Which dog sleeps well at night. Where they found that awesome spotted collar. One tried to ask me something and I said ‘whoa, whoa, I’m just the babysitter…I mean the dogsitter.’ I laughed when one woman apologized that her dog didn’t want to play with Asta because she gets shy in crowds. REALLY??
By this morning, it became obvious though. My boy is a dog boy.
When I asked Will this morning what he dreamed about last night, our morning ritual, instead of saying ‘mommy’ as per usual…he said ‘Asta’…
Oh and no need to call the CAS…this was just a photo op..I’m well aware who would be walking who in this instance.
SO! Will and I played with a dog this weekend. There’s still time to tell me what you and your kids love to do at playtime and win an awesome LEGO DUPLO prize pack. All you need to do is leave me a comment here telling me what it is we’ll pick a winner randomly. The contest runs from now until 5pm this Sunday, November 7th!!! Good luck!

Asta is a Golden Doodle. And she doesn’t shed, bark, chew or bite. She does, however, like to roll in crap.

Hey Christine – Asta is a labradoodle…amazing NON SHEDDING family dog. She really is so patient and a ton of fun. I think you’re right – a dog would be awesome for Cuy.

just wait until you get asked for a (doggy) playdate. You will think you have hit another planet!
Christine says
What kind of dog is she? Does she shed?
I think a dog would be great for Cuyler. Asta looks like a terrific family dog.
But I wouldn’t even consider a dog that sheds. I have enough trouble keeping the house tidy.

The video made me laugh out loud! The fun and trouble one can get into with a paper towel roll!
Asta looks like a great companion dog!
