IDS12. Seconda parte… and a strip tease!

January 30, 2012 by Sonya

I HAD TO GO BACK. I needed to fulfill my desire for more. The Interior Design Show (IDS12) had so much to see. I figured it would be a great afternoon to take in the show (again) but with hubby this time. We both love checking out contemporary design. Apparently, many others thought the same as the aisles were just as jammed as they were on the opening night (minus the schmoozing and double cheek kisses)!

There were a just few more points of interest that I wanted to share with you from this amazing and inspiring show!

STRIP TEASE (by RAW, in collaboration with Mark Tholen)
At the entrance of IDS12, attendees were greated with a STRIP TEASE..but not what you’re thinking.
Draped high from the ceiling at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre and right down to the floor at street level, this dramatic curtain of raw felt strips invited everyone to step into it and be tantalized! Some people chose to admire from a far while others wanted to be lost within. It was sexy… very sexy!
HOW DO YOU LIVE? A featured exhibit at IDS12 showed six different living spaces designed around two stories of staggered and stacked shipping containers. The featured designers showed great examples of how small spaces can be fully functional, responsible, sustainable and modern in design.

URBAN CUSTOM WALLPAPER BY ROLLOUT DESIGN & MFG CO. (Studio North)
A Canadian company that creates custom made wallpaper designs including this neat idea of the Eiffel Tower in stages of construction. The companies also do large murales – can you image a large beachy scene in your kid’s room?

BELLOSOUND is a company that is based in Toronto and Miami. They are “Music Curators” and they don’t just created them for restaurants and lounges but for those who are interested in creating an atmosphere that compliments the needs of a host. They will even create something special to serve family needs. They design new ways to connect with friends, family, and guests. I have a CD that was given to me as a gift back in September during TIFF and I still include it in our entertaining hit list at home. Check out their website for a sampling and their blog. You can even download some tunes for your next get-together!

THE SHATTERED SPHERE by Brent Comber
Very large balls of what appears to carefully placed together like a jigsaw puzzle encourages people to see the energy that occurs when there’s a breakthrough. It’s a balance between calm and the possibility to burst at any moment. LED lights illuminates through the cracks with a certain feeling of anticipation. The spheres are beautiful depicting life’s energies.
Thank you IDS12 for your inspiration (and to the exhibitors that were teaching me some Italian! – Grazie per avermi insegnato qualche parola in Italiani! lo ti visita un giorno! )
