Something New.

September 15, 2010 by dasbecca

I want to show you the latest tool to grace our home.

Check out those clean blue planes. Practical, functional, and squishy.

Any guesses?
I’ll give you a hint. We got it yesterday from Duke Ambulatory Surgery Center.

Despite how nervous he looks there, Eli had his gameface on for the (four hours long) surgery.

Aw. Sweet little guy.
So! Everything went fine. It was long, and stressful, and I hate hospitals and hate that we have to go back in six months, but at least our son came out of it out safe and sound. They had to insert two flexible nails into his broken arm, and it took eighteen attempts. His bones were so tiny that the smallest gage didn’t fit. The upside is they at least got enough nail in to secure further shifting, so he should heal perfectly from here on out.

And this weird blue thing? Possibly the best invention since foam cutting began.

No more awkward stack of pillows: we’ve graduated to a block that cradles his cast. Now he can sleep without rolling onto his broken arm or having it slumped to his side, and I can sleep without fear that he’s rolling onto his broken arm or having it slumped to his side. I can’t even tell you how much better this has made both of our lives. The nurse who gave it to us is on my good side FOREVER.
And it’s stylish.
Well, kind of.

    Becca,
So glad to hear that everything went well. He was in my thoughts all day yesterday 🙂 I was praying for him! They had to try 18 times? That is INSANE thank goodness he didn’t have to feel any of that! I’m glad that him and his big blue block are on the way to recovery!!
