I Want it Now.

December 8, 2010 by Metalia

This Holiday post is sponsored as part of the UrbanMoms Network.

You know, ever since I had kids, my holiday season has gotten a lot less about, well, me. And that’s FINE, really, because (a) both my anniversary and birthday are in the fall, so I’d feel silly trying to score more loot a mere few months later; and (b) seeing the glee on my kids’ faces as they open their presents almost makes up for my own lack of gifts.

Almost.

There’s nothing wrong with daydreaming, though, and so I keep a little running mental list of the stuff I’d buy myself, if I was buying my own gifts this holiday season:

THE DRESS

J.Crew’s Origami Sheath Dress ($198), to be exact. It’s perfect. I love the twisted neckline, and the cut, and how it could easily transition from the office to evening wear. The navy shade is the one I have my eye on, but honestly, I’d take any of the three.

THE TREND

ON skinny cargos.PNG
You know how people claim to read certain magazines for the articles? Well, I read Us Weekly for trendspotting purposes; I like to see how celebrities put themselves together in their off hours. Whether they are “real” people is debatable, but the fact remains that the newest looks generally start appearing on them, and I’d rather see a given look worn on an actual person, not a 15-year-old model in a highly stylized fashion editorial spread. This season, it seems that skinny cargo pants are IT, and again, had I not seen this style on actual people, I’d be skeptical. They look adorable, though, and I’ve been dying to get a pair, and break out of  my “all skinny jeans, all the time” casual clothing rut. Old Navy is on top of it, with their Ankle-Zip Skinny “Citizen Surplus” Cargos. At only $32.50 (on sale! Score!), they’d be an effortless way to update my closet with a wearable trend, without breaking the bank.

THE SKIRT

I’m trying to get over my patternphobia with dresses and skirts (I lean more toward solid colors than prints), and something about this Anthropologie Shadowbox Skirt (also $198! What is the deal, guys?) spoke to me. Yes, the design could easily be from a couch circa 1974, but the shape and draping are so modern and fresh. The colors in the skirt are so versatile, too.

THE MAKEUP SET

I’m a bit of a NARS junkie, and I audibly gasped when I saw this fantastic collection at Sephora ($69, but a $121 value). The kit consists of an eye palette containing Night Star (sheer
peach with gold pearls), Galapagos (rich bronze with gold flecks), Nepal
(rose with shimmer), Ondine (plum with gold shimmer), Thunderball
(midnight gray) plus a cream shadow in Unconditional Love (peach
beige shimmer); it also has a lip gloss in Ophelia (strawberry nectar), a Multiple Stick in Orgasm (peachy pink shimmer, and a mini Bronzer in Laguna (brown with golden shimmer). The contents and their colors are beyond gorgeous. (And I, uh, may actually buy this for myself anyway, such is the awesomeness. And value! Right? RIGHT?)

nars.PNG
THE STEAL

I have this Lands’ End Canvas Fine Gauge Boyfriend V-Neck Sweater in the bold sun and brown colors already; I love it, and want the others. Now. They’re staples, and while this is a looser, boyfriend cut, it’s not boxy at all; it’s still body-conscious and kind of…well, sexy, without being overtly so. It pairs beautifully with skinny jeans, looks great with work slacks, and covers a multitude of sins, while still highlighting the good stuff. It’s a perfect addition to any wardrobe. And at $16.99, there’s no reason it shouldn’t be.

THE DREAM(S)

Oh, whatever. Every girl’s gotta have a few.

The only thing I really really want is the same thing I want every year. I want my husband to be able to make it home in time for Christmas (he works on the other side of the country) and he doesn’t always make it back here in time. Last year he missed the kids opening their gifts by half an hour (didnt know he was on his way home-surprise)…, and just for the kids to get up this year have fun, be happy and satisfied with what they got and most importantly for them to be healthy (nooo cold or flu bugs please). If I got up christmas morning and there was nothing under the tree addressed to me then I would be happy as long as everyone else was happy and having fun. I love my kids and my family and just want the best for them….

Our house was broken into yesterday. It must have been quick because they only took our digital camera and emptied my jewelry box. Most of the valuable items also had a significant sentimental value attached, so replacement of those items won’t be easy or fulfilling, but I’d still love to replace some of it, especially at this time of year — even to get through the holiday season with some costume jewelry.

I would love a warm winter coat that fits. It’s not that I don’t have a warm winter coat, it’s just that it doesn’t fit now that I am almost eight months pregnant. I bought a maternity coat, but it’s too thin and doesn’t keep me warm, because I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on something I’d only wear for a short while. So meanwhile, baby, it’s cold outside!
